I've been whistling "home on the range" like a maniac lately.  A maniac!

I've lived in 7 different states and none of them celebrate their statehood date like Kansas does, closest is Oklahoma and the land rush date.

Whenever I tell non-Kansans about Kansas Day they look at me like I'm an alien for celebrating it. Then again most of them are huge hicks from the south so maybe they just can't wrap their brains around the fact that we were a studly progressive free state

Wet weather has hampered sod house construction, may have to opt for dugout.

The most difficult state to draw. Cake would have been amazing.

NE KS'ers are stunned that this is a thing.

That said, I did have a kid in my class who's bday was on ks day.  Guess what his middle name was?  Yep, it was Kansas.

I mean the date of statehood doesn't change. At some point I stopped celebrating my birthday but that doesn't mean I forgot what my birthday was :dunno:

our district had all sorts of celebrations for it when i was in school. maybe it's a generational thing.

Our grade school went all out. Full day of Kansas related skits, activities, speakers, foods, etc. were also encouraged to dress as pioneers
