Prepare for bowl or relax?
« on: December 06, 2015, 12:29:41 PM »
i've got a friend on the team and he called me this morning and told me that Snyder is changing all bowl prep practices to optional attendance.  that's right, he's letting his guys decide if they want to practice or not and they all have decided to skip town/not practice.

in other words, the players are going to be at home on their xbox's for the next few weeks instead of dealing with his otherwise insane practice regime.

my buddy on the team is actually just flying home to texas for the next month.  i wouldn't practice if i didn't have to either.
can't blame them.

If we were playing a "name" team I would say to prepare, but this year let them enjoy the break.

Big 12 season is a grinder, our bowl competition will be a huge step down.

Will they at least be required to play NCAA Football 2015 on their Xboxes?

This is no surprise. Last time we played Arkansas in a bowl our guys did the same thing. I heard that only 16 of our players attended every bowl practice, only 35 went to more than half of them.

west virginia would probably be a top 4 team in the sec and we just beat them. do we get paid more if we can prove we practiced? if not, don't bother. if yes then yeah we should probably make them practice.

we didn't practice before the michigan bowl game. B+ source. i still think we should practice or at least make it look like we did if money is involved which i'm assuming it is. how else could you get "up" for playing arkansas for a second time in five years?

More like top 2...

Remember when we shipped our middle of the pack trash (A&M and Mizzou) off to the SEC and the proceeded to dominate that mid-level conference?  Neither team could finish above .500 in the Big12, but were immediately world beaters against lesser competition.

Stuff like this infuriates me. It's a privilege to play in bowl games no matter who the opponent is. I really hope they decide to practice.

sometimes relaxation can be the best type of practice

I really don't mind this as long as they still lift and don't drink more than 3 or 4 days a week. It's not like they're going to be playing an Oklahoma State or Baylor.

Maybe they should practice, but its a more relaxed practice with tons of screwing around.  And they work on nothing but gadget plays.  Things like fake-punt-passes and double reverses.  Or they work in a few plays that we would otherwise never run, like stuff out of the wishbone or some odd formation like the Colts tried to do earlier this year.

Just have fun with it.

Eric Stonestreet is guest coaching the defense and I bet he brings the small ginger wood elf for special teams and that comely Latina gal for offense.

I understand the more relaxed approach.  However, doesn't that totally negate any advantage to the extra practice time allowed during bowl prep?  I thought Coach said it is important to get to a bowl game so you have those extra practices and reps for the younger, developing players.  Seems to be incongruous in my opinion.

Should we start our really good quarterback that doesn't practice quarterback or our really shitty quarterback that practices quarterback?

i'd prefer if they practiced, but it's nice that coach is giving them some R&R.  this type of thing will definitely help with the recruiting, given how lazy millennials are.  the more i think about it, the more i like it.

I hope our center practices that thing where he moves the ball ahead 3-6 yards before each snap

maybe they could have like a flag football  tourney or something. make practice fun. like have the fat players race, and the winner gets a sandwich. then have the kickers see who can kick the best blindfolded etc. I say practice but let your hair down a bit
