I'd suggest anyone who claims to be a follower of Jesus, take a look at his answer when asked "who is my neighbor" in Luke chapter 10. I'd also suggest those who claim to follow Jesus, but fear death and terrorism from refugees, consider what Paul says about death in Philippians 1 verse 21.

Safety is a complete illusion. You are not safe and neither am I. I believe the 1st role of government is protection of citizens from its enemies, from foreign and domestic threats to our lives and liberty. However, that's not who these people are. They are refugees. What a long con that would be to be displaced from your home and pushed around by bullies like ISIS as a way to pretend to be a good guy so you could get here and blow something up.

Most reasonable thing written ITT. Also treating these people like crap when they get here is a guaranteed reason for them to potentially rethink their decision and thoughts about the US. Have them come here and treat them with dignity and humanity, they'll be prosperous friends and allies for a long time. Even if they move back to Syria if/when this all ends, imagine the improved relations we could have if we help out now.

You don't really think any of them are ever going back, do you?

Also, I love that the nihilistic attitude of "hey, everybody dies" is the best argument proffered so far to not be concerned about mass importation and resulting non-assimilation of Muslims from terrorist hotbeds.

Why would that matter? Still would be in communication with friends and family that didn't make it or with others still there. And I also said if, not all, or some, or many. I'd think some might return, but sure, most will stay, all the better. As for the nihilism comment about everyone dies you missed the point of CF3's post entirely.

13% of Syrian refugees have a "positive" or "somewhat positive" view of ISIS. To be fair, the polling sample probably includes about 10% terrorists.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

How could a christian reconcile his or her faith with turning refugees away?

I love it (not really) when people use other peoples' faith against them in one discussion, and then totally trash their faith in another.  (not directed at dlew here, but it is happening no doubt)

I think the FBI's anti-terrorism stings that K-S-U and emo keep linking to are scarier than terrorism

Worth noting that the French sent us that statue with this phrase emblazoned upon it. Then they sent us a bunch of poors. Now they're sending us their terrorists.  :runaway:

You don't have to, but the consequence is pretty clear....

31
f “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne,
32
g and all the nations* will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33
He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34
Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35
h For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me,
36
naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’
37
Then the righteous* will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?
38
When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?
39
When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’
40
i And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’
41
* j Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

You can be generous and cautious at the same time? :dunno: I mean what is your standard? Am I not a good Christian is I don't volunteer to host a Syrian family in my home? If I don't sell my home and donate the proceeds to Syrian refugees? It's a stupid discussion.

Sorry to backtrack from this amazing part of the discussion, but Deadspin had a good explanation of what happened in Turkey with their moment of silence.  (hint, another piece that agrees with ednksu's position)

I read the linked article so the rest of you don't have to. Here's the key takeaway:

Quote
The more important clarification the article makes is that the chants of “Martyrs never die, the country will never be divided” and the reported cries of “Allahu Akbar” were in no way meant to show support to the perpetrators of the Paris attacks. According to the writer, the former slogan is actually a common anti-terrorism chant expressing a sentiment that no matter what kind of attacks Turkey faces, it will remain as one. It too was chanted during the moment of silence after the Ankara bombings. As for “Allahu Akbar,” the article points to another popular chant that, while nationalistic in origin, has become a typical “Let’s Go Team!” type of thing.

 If you really believe that, I mean, just

The whole thing centers around their racist war against the Kurds  and if you want to believe that rot gut explanation of chanting Allahu Akbar being anything else but appreciation for Allah's wrath against the Parisian's then you're just a whack-a-doodle, like edn.

Since we have this "SAFE Act of 2015" does this mean these governors will go back to their duly appointed powers and stop with the executive overreach?

Thought this was interesting: http://www.the-american-interest.com/2015/11/17/president-obamas-cynical-refugee-ploy/

The refugees in question make up one fourth of one percent of all Syrian refugees.
