Perhaps this is too pragmatic, but here are my hesitations regarding the issue:

1) It seems illogical and irrational to put people on airplanes and take them thousands of miles from their home, to a place where they know nobody, know not the language, nor possess the resources to succeed, when there are dozens of adjoining countries they could take refuge in. Further, isn't the idea that they'll return home once things are safe?

2) I don't know how anyone ever trusts the federal government to do anything correctly, particularly this exceedingly incompetent administration, particularly on this issue, and as such have zero confidence that they'll properly screen any isis people. It seems like erring on the side of caution may be warranted under these circumstances. Send the other countries money if you want to help.

I can't imagine anyone who chooses to flee Syria choosing to go back with the alternative being staying in the most prosperous nation in the world.

I think the US is probably the least likely place in the world for these people to end up being terrorists. Only issue is it's probably too easy for them to get guns if they decide to be gun terrorists.

I'd rather have these people "end up being terrorists" in Syria or Somalia as opposed to inside the US.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

Cute. So are we just going to pretend that the predominant releigion of the current refugees is irrelevant?

This is what happens when you relocate hundreds of thousands of muslim refugees to the United States and they don't assimilate.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/22/world/middleeast/from-minneapolis-to-isis-an-americans-path-to-jihad.html?_r=0

Quote
Most of the American ISIS volunteers display an earnest religious zeal, usually newfound. [huh, wonder where that's coming from?] ... The majority of the Islamic State recruits are men, but there are quite a few women. The volunteers include teenagers too young to drive and middle-aged adults with families and careers; petty criminals and diligent students. A substantial minority are converts to Islam, while others are the children of immigrants with roots in 10 Muslim countries.

The only cluster in the country is in Minneapolis [home to the biggest Somali population in the country thanks to refugee resettlement], where two dozen young men with Somali roots departed in recent years to fight with the Shabab, the affiliate of Al Qaeda in Somalia. Now, to the distress of Somali elders, more than a dozen others have left or have tried to leave to join ISIS.

More than a dozen have tried to leave to join ISIS? Good grief, that's nothing. You are insane.

If that is nothing, what would be something?

I don't know, maybe buying a gun and shooting up a school?

But I guess that can happen with our own citizens, so let's just let them in with a reasonably thorough vetting.

Do they become citizens?

I would be worried that this country is proven to be a good incubator of radical Islam.  I'm less worried about bad people getting in than I am about them becoming bad people once they are here.

this country is not "proven to be a good incubator of radical islam", my goodness. And I think it would be great if they'd like to become citizens.

I think the US is probably the least likely place in the world for these people to end up being terrorists. Only issue is it's probably too easy for them to get guns if they decide to be gun terrorists.

I'd rather have these people "end up being terrorists" in Syria or Somalia as opposed to inside the US.

So are we just going to pretend that the predominant religion of the current refugees is irrelevant?

they didn't in 1938, so i don't know why we'd do so now.

Believes Islam is no more prone to radical violence than Christianity.

Well, other than the objective and overwhelming evidence that Islam has a particular problem with radical violence. Other than that...

As has already been mentioned, at least 250 people have left the US to join ISIS.  Additionally, there have been several attacks in the US linked to radical Islam (Ft Hood, Boston Marathon, Beltway Sniper) and many many more foiled attempts (Jose Padilla/dirty bomb, Iyman Faris, Virginia Jihad Network, etc).  Really the list is too long to mention.  At least 29 attempts since Bush's first term, most perpetrated by US citizens, many of whom were not born here.

Here's a list of terrorists we've allowed in the country with the 1.5 million refugees from the Middle East in 14 years:

Hmmm, if I'm ISIS, I'm taking full advantage of the "securing the borders ='s racism" dumbasses that populate the United States by the millions before I go to the trouble of sending somebody through refugee mechanisms.
