kazub, just hypothetically, if the 100,000 welfare recipients mostly got off welfare and self supported very quickly and started businesses and were a net economic gain with no more than the background level of crime and violence, would you be in favor of letting them in?

So in this land of make believe, none of these refugees are radical Islamists and the vast majority very quickly assimilate into their communities and don't depend upon welfare? Sure. Bring 'em on in.

1.5 million refugees from the Middle East since 9/11 and not a single one arrested for domestic terrorist activities. #facts

EDIT:  So this was the guy that was going to blow up LAX back in 2000 (pre 9/11 obvs).  Got into Canada with a fake French passport.  Well, they caught him trying to enter, he told a fake story and they let him stay!  And, not only that, approved him for 3 years of welfare!  Eventually his application for entry was denied but he skipped town.  It took nearly 3 years for an arrest warrant to be issued for him.  Meanwhile dude is in Afghan training with Al Qaeda under a fake Canadian passport.  Apparently you only need a baptismal certificate to get a Canadian passport?  He was arrested 4 times between when he was in Afghan and when his plot was foiled, never was he jailed.  Caught trying to enter the US with the bombs.

Glad to hear you're ok with letting in terrorists, but only if they aren't from the "Middle East."

I'm not so much "OK with terrorists" as I am "not worried in the least" about them.

I don't think the people killed in Boston give a crap when they were radicalized.  If anything the fact that they were radicalized here makes it more troubling.

I don't support flooding this country with over 100,000 new welfare recipients per year from terrorist hotbeds. We can be compassionate and moral without being stupid and jeopardizing our own security.
Where on earth did you get that 100,000 figure from?

The news? :dunno: The aim is 100,000. Per year.

The Obama administration is looking to increase the number of Syrian refugees who may be admitted into the U.S. as well as speed up the process. The administration plans to do this, Reuters reports, by opening new screening outposts in Iraq and Lebanon. As of now, the administration promised to accept as many as 100,000 refugees each year by the end of 2017. The present annual cap is at 70,000.

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/europes-border-crisis/john-kerry-u-s-accept-85-000-refugees-2016-100-n430576

Quote
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says the U.S. will accept 85,000 refugees from around the world next year, up from 70,000, and the number will rise to 100,000 in 2017.

Aides to Kerry say that many, though not all, of the additional refugees would be Syrian.
Ah, apoligies.  I hadn't read about the years moving forward -- I'd only seen the 10,000 figure that states are currently raising hell about.

It completely astounds me that so many people are against allowing Syrian refugees into the U.S. using a process that was established after 9/11 that has allowed exactly zero domestic terrorists to enter the U.S.  1.5 million Middle Eastern refugees, zero terrorists. The explanation that I can accept is that people are that clueless of the facts. Maybe they think that 0bama is shipping them over next week?  idk  i-j-d-k

If you really think that seeking asylum status versus refugee status, or being from Chechnya versus "the Middle East" are in any way relevant distinctions... I don't even know what to say to that.

Yes, this is a very carefully tailored talking point that may or may not be true, but it is too narrow to really matter. For example, as has already been discussed, it omits terrorists like the Boston bombers. It also ignores a larger problem: large Muslim immigrant populations that have not assimilated and are likely breeding grounds for radical Islam in the United States. The FBI is deeply concerned about many such communities. The FBI has even taken action to shut down certain radical groups. For example:

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2009/10/29/us/29shooting.html?referer=&_r=0

And then there is the uptick in Sharia Law being practiced in these communities, a set of "laws" incompatible with our legal system.

These are not good things.

To argue in spite of this that - yeah, but nobody specifically admitted as a refugee from a middle eastern country has successfully carried out a terrorist attack yet - is a pretty thin argument and seems more like putting your head in the sand.

Ok. Dramatically scaling back the welfare they receive would be a good start.

not providing welfare to refugees is perfectly reasonable, imo, as long as they are permitted to work.  if access to social assistance is a significant impediment to allowing refugees to come to the u.s., then it could/should be changed.

It's rough ridin' true. You know that because you Googled it before you responded and you can't call me out on it.

This response saddens me (no dax).

I'd suggest anyone who claims to be a follower of Jesus, take a look at his answer when asked "who is my neighbor" in Luke chapter 10. I'd also suggest those who claim to follow Jesus, but fear death and terrorism from refugees, consider what Paul says about death in Philippians 1 verse 21.

Safety is a complete illusion. You are not safe and neither am I. I believe the 1st role of government is protection of citizens from its enemies, from foreign and domestic threats to our lives and liberty. However, that's not who these people are. They are refugees. What a long con that would be to be displaced from your home and pushed around by bullies like ISIS as a way to pretend to be a good guy so you could get here and blow something up.
