this thread is a good read:

http://goEMAW.com/forum/index.php?topic=35519.0

and this is a great post

It's burdensome having to always step up when other pussy nations won't, but I'm proud that America is willing to shoulder that burden. It's what makes us the worlds greatest superpower and the greatest force for good the world has ever known.

I love that you used Jon Stewart, because that's exactly what he would do - take a quote out of context to claim that someone is being hypocritical for a cheap laugh.

I support lending a hand to exterminate ISIS. I support humanitarian aid to the poor civilians being brutalized by ISIS. I don't support flooding this country with 100,000 new welfare recipients per year from terrorist hotbeds. We can be compassionate and moral without being stupid and jeopardizing our own security.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

Where on earth did you get that 100,000 figure from?

If you're playing kickball and you have first pick, aren't you picking the best kickball player?  Why not take the best ones we can?

It's not a draft, you stupid $!#*

Why not? Or, you know, just disagree and scream obscenities.

kazub, just hypothetically, if the 100,000 welfare recipients mostly got off welfare and self supported very quickly and started businesses and were a net economic gain with no more than the background level of crime and violence, would you be in favor of letting them in?

The news? :dunno: The aim is 100,000. Per year.

The Obama administration is looking to increase the number of Syrian refugees who may be admitted into the U.S. as well as speed up the process. The administration plans to do this, Reuters reports, by opening new screening outposts in Iraq and Lebanon. As of now, the administration promised to accept as many as 100,000 refugees each year by the end of 2017. The present annual cap is at 70,000.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says the U.S. will accept 85,000 refugees from around the world next year, up from 70,000, and the number will rise to 100,000 in 2017.

Aides to Kerry say that many, though not all, of the additional refugees would be Syrian.

So in this land of make believe, none of these refugees are radical Islamists and the vast majority very quickly assimilate into their communities and don't depend upon welfare? Sure. Bring 'em on in.

1.5 million refugees from the Middle East since 9/11 and not a single one arrested for domestic terrorist activities. #facts

I really enjoy it when KSUW supports lawless action only because it fits in with his political agenda.

No thanks. We don't need any more radical Islamists in this country, and we certainly shouldn't be paying for it. We've already got enough.

In the grand scheme, can we call borders racist?   I think those Canadians are pretty racisty, with their checkpoints at the border.   Plus this whole going through customs things, pretty profilie and racisty by many countries.

I think open borders are paramount in a post 9-11 world.

But very close, I think they were from one of those former Soviet republics that made up Zbig's Grand Chessboard, of which you see a battle for today.   But, that's probably a conspiracy theory.

Seriously?  I'm taken aback.

I mean we can talk about this like adults, I think there is a knowledge gap for people on the process of getting to the US as a refugee and what America's responsibilities are.  I'm not anywhere near fluent on the matter, but I think the conversation is valuable.

EDIT:  So this was the guy that was going to blow up LAX back in 2000 (pre 9/11 obvs).  Got into Canada with a fake French passport.  Well, they caught him trying to enter, he told a fake story and they let him stay!  And, not only that, approved him for 3 years of welfare!  Eventually his application for entry was denied but he skipped town.  It took nearly 3 years for an arrest warrant to be issued for him.  Meanwhile dude is in Afghan training with Al Qaeda under a fake Canadian passport.  Apparently you only need a baptismal certificate to get a Canadian passport?  He was arrested 4 times between when he was in Afghan and when his plot was foiled, never was he jailed.  Caught trying to enter the US with the bombs.

So?

So read the thread

So read the original post.  Had nothing to do with any specific geographic region whatsoever.
