Also, the incredible fear of communism in the US during that time is pretty fascinating, especially considering how we had allied with the Soviets so recently.

Ike was on decent terms with the Soviets and was about to visit Moscow before the U2 was shot down (and it was supposed to be the last U2 flight ever). Then crap kinda got bad.

I don't know anything about him, but renaming wichita's airport for him seemed really off, geographically.

Also created NASA, though at that time we we're getting out asses handed to us by the Soviets but hey, we won that round. Probably like literally every single president ever, did a lot of good things, lot of indifferent things, and a lot of bad things. Interstate system is probably the best thing he did. Stuff with Iran and Guatemala and Wetback worse. Probably a middle of the packer when it comes to all time prez's.

I thought it could have been more critical for sure, although it was very critical of his capabilities as a military strategist and his use of the CIA. Spent a bit too much time on his early life and seemed to gloss over large patches of his presidency, but overall it's worth a read.

I'll add that I enjoyed reading about his management style (good and bad). I think he was a pretty good manager in WWII, but he trusted John Foster Dulles, who I really hate, waaaay too much as president.

And?

Well, I guess I just think to all the shrieking that has been done, predominately by staunch Dem voters about the CIA, and I can't help but think back at who created the CIA and NSA, and the number of presidents who have done some very evil things using the CIA who are considered heroes in the Liberal mind, including the current President.

Dax, are you upset people are saying both positive and negative things about Ike because he was a Kansan or a republican?

Neither . . . but when the litmus test is a specific operation that had racial overtones being viewed through the prism of 2015 culture, then logic and history dictates that the same scorn and ridicule is applicable to every presidential administration in the post WWII era (and easily before, but that's obvious).

Based on 2015 thought processes then Eisenhower Hall (named for the brother) needs to be renamed immediately.  As brothers were complicit in one of the most racist undertakings in modern American history.   Then again, Prog-Lib hero FDR was a massive racist.

I'm not defending Ike.  Apparently you're having trouble applying the theme of the original posts across all the presidencies, particularly those in the same political context of IKE in WWII/Post WWII America.
