They would have beat an nfl team after getting throttled by texas, we just ran into a buzz saw.
We ran into a buzz saw with a blindfold on. I've tried to rationalize the losses so far, but the common thread running through all of them is inexplicable coaching decisions. If we had a good game plan yesterday we probably still would have lost, but we would have at least looked like a P5 team and not some FCS pud that gets $700k for showing up.
There is a very predictable formula in college football if you pay attention. KSU lost last minute heart breakers in back to back games coming into this week against a really good team. They were going to get crushed.
Texas did the same thing against Cal, Oklahoma State, and TCU. They turned around and whipped up Oklahoma. The Cats will be fine.
Like I said, it's not surprising at all that we lost to OU. What is surprising is that almost no one (people in the know, former players, former coaches, casual fans, Bill himself, etc.) has any explanation for some of the coaching decisions that have been made the last few weeks. OU struggled stopping the run, we successfully ran the ball for most of the TCU game, our receivers are terrible, and our QB has a sub-.500 completion percentage. So we come out and throw all passes our first 2-3 drives?
We
CAN be fine, but something significant has to change in planning and preparation both on offense and defense.
