This is the kind of thing that allows you to get transferred to Japan. Everyone should take note.

I mean, I hope your company gives you some etiquette classes or something before it ships you off to Japan. You could really embarrass yourself and your company/family/ancestors.

Also, don't say "hi". Say kon'nichiwa. That word is much more fun and they will admire you for respecting their language and ancestry.

Depending on the time of day, you could also say ohio or konbanwa

anyway, i approach all people as if there is something interesting to be learned from them. which is almost always true one  way or another.

but i am totally comfortable doing this by silent observation with no direct interaction. BUT i also enjoy talking to people. BUT i do not really enjoy or succeed at small talk.

basically exactly what you would expect from my MBTI

I've probably blogged about this before, but I hate when people ask me, "So how has your day been?" while in the middle or near the end of some type of commercial transaction.  Maybe it's a weird Texas Hospitality thing, but it makes no sense to ask me that as you're swiping my CSP and then giving me my card back and waiting for the receipt while I'm ready to grab my Mountain Dew Kick Start and Kickstart the day. Plus, you already asked me at the beginning how I was and I said, "good, and you?" and I didn't mind because that is the appropriate time to ask that type of question. When you ask me again, I want to say, "...still good," but I'm too fake polite (@Mrs. Gooch), so I have to say, "Not bad! Not bad... You?" "Oh it's been pretty good, you know, just working (this shitty job...)"

It doesn't bother me a ton, but it does feel really forced, and I wish they knew that they really don't need to put themselves through it for my sake.
