Wooly's best conference winning percentage was .375. Last year's conference winning percentage was .444.

Last year we went 4-2 against the best 3 teams in the conference, I'll bet everything I got we won't do that this year. For the gigantic pain in the ass last year's team was they did have a bonafied "put the ball in my hand" closer last year, we don't have that anymore and that's going to be problematic against good teams that have that guy or guys.

Maybe not 4-2 vs the top 3, but we'll win several games against good teams. oscar has been consistent with getting several wins against really good teams throughout his career. The key for this season is beating the teams at our level and below us, especially on the road. When oscar's teams have slipped in the past, that's been his big downfall (like last year).

I think we may have a guy that develops that fairly soon, hopefully in time for conference play.  I think Wes has moments of that, and he could be the guy who directs that, if not taking it into his own hands.  The end of the Georgia game is an example.  Maybe a stretch, but I'm hopeful.

Foster was absolutely the key to beating OU both times last year and he was decent against Baylor in Manhattan. But he was also pretty terrible in the last two wins against KU and ISU at home. Granted, the key player against KU and ISU was Nigel Johnson.

Not only do we not have a clutch player, but Edwards most likely feels that he should be that guy now, and that is not going to work out well, imo.

I think Claws can be that person.

Let's hope he doesn't get invited to any camps.

I think he will be next year.  I don't think he will be this year.

Westicles will have to be the guy playing 2 man ball with Wade. Stokes will have to be the spark in big games, he not shy of the moment. He will chuck.

Edwards is that guy and I don' think he wants to be. But he has made plays late before.

I like Wes a lot but he doesn't have it in him, I just don't see him as a player that demands the ball when we need a shot. I see him like a timid Rodney McGruder.

Kinda ironically enough I guess is that I think oscar really hated the fact that MF2 insisted on doing it by himself at crunch time.

Yeah, Stokes can be that guy, we'll see if he's willing to step out of our no stars allowed system to be that guy. When in the hell has Edwards made a play in a big spot?

I think Edwards is growing into that.  He has definitely shown leadership, and his confidence is higher than I expected it to be coming into the season.  I think he will be very good for us in many games.

He made a couple jumpers/Leaner things against ISU late last year. In like the last two minutes. But I honestly don't thats him.

I think Stokes is way too streaky to be COUNTED on to be that guy. He's had two good shooting games from behind the arc and four bad ones, other games have been meh. Certainly not a ratio that inspires confidence. Edwards is the same way, some nights he can shoot, most nights he can't. Wes just can't shoot the basketball at all outside of layups, that's pretty clear at this point. Best plan is probably to utilize Claws like Huggins did with Cartier Martin. I would imagine that's our best bet for having a "clutch" player.

both dogbite and deathbite are spot up shooters.  "that guys" are players that can create their own shots off the bounce.
on this roster that equates to hopper and westicles.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

The existence of a "go to guy" in the clutch is a trivial cliche inane  talk radio time filler talking point.

Yeah you're right about that, as pissclams mentioned though this conversation is about someone with the ability to get their own shot late in games. We don't have anyone who can score outside of the framework of the offense which is not good late in tight games.

Wesley breaking down a defense and scoring (like he did at aTm) or passing for a good shot (at Georgia) aren't bad options. We'll see.

I think he's physically capable, I just don't know if he's willing. I will admit to forgetting him passing to Wade against UGA.

I read MIR's posts and I laugh at the guy telling me I hate everything, but I digress.

That's a new one, 23 year olds incapable of growing and developing.

His role has changed drastically over his time here.  I think we will see leadership emerge.  And if not him, then I am not sure from where that comes.

To be fair to MIR's point, I didn't develop any additional skills in my job since my fifth year.  I've been a frickin genius from the start.
