The old AFDC program provided welfare benefits to single mothers and penalized a family that had a father. Urban renewal created giant people warehouses called projects. Trade deals like Nafta took manufacturing jobs out of America. Environmental programs have led to job loss. Some things like afirmative action helped some. Republican policies like trickle on the poor were stupid. I think it starts with having affordable energy and charging an import tax on goods from countries with less stringent environmental laws.
