it's used outside of business. just means like big or complete change.
liblib, i had the same experience. after i saw it for the first time, i started seeing it everywhere. that actually happens a lot - i especially notice the phenomenon when i learn a new word in spanish. i think your brain just filters the unfamiliar words/phrases out as not worthy of attention (so like, you don't get hung up on one word, but just keep reading to get the overall meaning of the passage) until you consciously notice it. then the brain flags it for noticing every subsequent time you see it until you get used to it and then the brain stops paying attention again.
