I'm not saying that Ertz isn't going to come out of camp looking like the best option at QB; he certainly has a lot of reasons to be the guy who gives us the best chance to win Games 1-3. So, this isn't commentary on that...
However...when people reference KMAN reports, or some things people saw at FAD, I know enough about KSU fans to know that if given any alternative, they're going to root for a kid who comes from a small town, with little fan fare, over a much more athletic or highly recruited option. Bazooka Joe is pretty much the epitome of everything a number of our fans have in mind for what Kansas State football is and should be. He's a walk-on from a small, Kansas town, and he's worked his way up through the depth chart to potentially become the starting QB. It's like a dream come true for some of them.
I guess what I'm saying is that a number of our fans, who are from small towns, vicariously live through a lot of these walk-on guys because they relate to them in some way, and they really can't be objective about who is really out-performing who.
Now, in this case, Ertz may have been a better option at FAD. He was the most steady/consistent option in the Spring Game, so I'm not going to vociferously complain. But I'm just not going to trust a lot of reports right now (outside of some people on here) because I feel like they aren't going to be objective based on the above.
