Thanks guys…it’s mostly just paint on 1980 fake wood grain paneling, black room divider curtains, and carpet pad/carpet remnants from South Side carpet in Waldo.  Added some free furniture from a buddy and throw in some pinpoint track lighting and led strips.

My son built the PC, so that was cheaper. Along with an “Amazon basics” 27 inch monitor.

Got literally the cheapest 55 inch Insignia smart TV’s for the wall.

I could have done the impact screen and enclosure WAY cheaper, now that I know.

The launch monitor was the priciest part. I got the Uneekor Mini Lite, and added the special cameras to get the side and rear view of swing after every shot. Monitor was $2K and cameras were $1.4K.  Still not terrible since the other monitors I was considering were around that price (eg Skytrack +, Bushnell, Mevo+). I choose the Uneekor for the camera option and its ability to have loads of crap on multiple screens at one time (hence the big screens in my setup)

I also busted out the window on the garage back door and put in an AC unit. Will be adding an industrial shop heater soon as well.

One fun thing about the sim is being able to buy old timey clubs for cheap and try them out and see how they perform. I picked up a great condition Titleist 975D 8.5 degree driver for $50, which is the driver that Tiger used to win the Tiger Slam. Damn thing drills the ball.   Also got a perfect condition Biggest Big Bertha driver for $50, and it’s super fun to hit.

Right now my favorite irons to hit are either 1996 Big Bertha’s or the 2002 Big Bertha’s. Those suckers are so stupidly forgiving.  Each of which I bought for $100 for a whole set.

Overland Park has a super large population of Boomers selling clubs on Facebook marketplace for cheap.

I haven’t played regularly since my kids were born, and it’s been a joy to get back into it.  Personally, I don’t think iron technology has come nearly as far as driver technology.

I am just as happy with 1996 irons as I am more modern stuff. My handicap isn’t good enough yet for high end forged blades, for example.

On the drivers, I can tell a difference with modern driver tech. Longer drives and tight shot pattern.

Biggest change in my game and in clubs between my 30’s and almost 50, is that I now use hybrids instead of 6/5/4/3 irons. I got used Ping hybrids and rough ridin' love them. I cannot imagine ever going back to long irons.

Question for you. I'm about 3 years in to playing regularly for the first time in my life. Didn't play as a kid at all or much in my younger adult days. I'm finally hitting with some consistency and actually having fun. I'd love to go back and start earlier and develop a basic swing along time ago, but it is what it is. My course is long as crap, which really sucks to learn on so the second shot always needs to be a banger, especially if you miss on the drive. I have a 3 wood i'm ok with if the ball is sitting up a bit, but it's a struggle on flat ground or if the fairway is narrow. I'll normally just grab my 5 iron and try to get back on track if in the rough or even on the fairway as it's safer. I've seen people use the hybrids in those situations, but I have no idea. I don't even have anything lower than a 5 iron and I wouldn't be able to hit it anyway. Is there a hybrid you would recommend for those situations?

I use Ping Hybrids and I love them. If I were you, I’d grab a used 3 or 4 hybrid (meant to replace the 3 or 4 iron) or heck even the 5 or 6 hybrid. I have all four. I can hit them with ease off the fairway and they go HIGH. Check out 2nd Swing. I buy shitloads of clubs from them. Especially the “below average” condition ones, where it’s almost entirely cosmetic issues and the clubs are still fine.

I have definitely considered it, and I am eyeballing an old Callaway heaven wood on Facebook marketplace presently!

My son and I were up LATE last night playing the Tianna course from Walker, Minnesota, which is an IRL favorite of mine. Hilariously fun.

Thanks, this is what I was after. I looked on 2nd swing earlier. There are some current deals on new hybrids so some of the prices are close, but I'll check it out. I think a 3 is what i'm after. Just need something I can hit with a little extra juice than my 5 iron. I can hit my 3 wood decent, but it's way too unpredictable.

Had my personal best day golfing since before I had kids, and it was on an AMAZING golf course in MN called Deacon’s Lodge (Arnold Palmer course). Look at all those 3+ putts on the front   I sacrificed a live chicken at the turn with my putter and it made a big difference. I am not used to super fast resort course / private course style greens. Was tough to get the speed figured out.

My golf game is improving. I'm approaching Tiger Woods level. Specifically Tiger age 10 when he was in the 15-20 handicap range.  I think I could absolutely crush 9 year old Tiger right now.

I love that visual, me playing 12 year old Tiger and he just whoops up on me so I press the rewind button and play him again as a 9 year old and beat him while talking mad crap.

My instructor changed my grip and it's been a struggle. I hit so many balls yesterday the tip of my left index finger is still numb this morning. I think I still have a grip issue.  :frown:

not gEing here...gyro ball. they sound kinda as-seen-on-tv gimmicky but it is kind of amazing what those things can do for your grip/wrist strength even if you just use it for like 10-15 minutes a day, and its smaller than a baseball so you can just do it like literally any time at all. (i got my gyro ball for guitar purposes but you know what they say, a rising tide lifts all boats)

Thanks, I'll take a look. I have one of those twisty band things I use for tennis elbow or whatever. It's not really a grip strength issue. I just can't get comfortable most of the time. It's one of those things I wish i would have conquered a long time ago, but since I just started playing, I struggle with it. It's very frustrating. Its tough working on my swing when the basic part of holding the club is difficult for me some times.
