I assume most people have heard of Shona Banda from Garden City who was arrested a couple months ago for possession of marijuana. Here is a link to the story.  http://www.cbsnews.com/news/kansas-mom-loses-custody-of-son-11-after-he-gives-marijuana-speech/  She uses marijuana to treat her Crohn's disease that almost killed her, had something like 17 surgeries and was taking fentanyl to ease the pain.  I personally have never used marijuana but I do have Crohn's disease so i feel for her and understand her troubles.  I did know that many Crohn's sufferers do smoke or ingest marijuana and talk about a big improvement in symptoms because of it, but the legal issues have always scared me off.  Now I'm not saying Shona Banda is a great role model or a great parent for how she's handled everything, but she faces up to 34 years in prison for using marijuana to treat her Crohn's and it seems a little ridiculous.  If my Crohn's was as bad as hers I wouldn't hesitate to use marijuana if it helped me.

Colorado made almost $100 million last year from the taxes on the sale of marijuana  and we spent over $70 million on arresting and jailing marijuana users.  I think it's about time to just legalize the stuff by now.  At least since Colorado has legalized marijuana less American money is going to the Drug Cartels in Mexico.

Ks needs to legalize it, grow it like crazy, and strike a deal with Colorado for inter state weed commerce.

We need to get in on it for sure, especially before Iowa does.

The feds are done.  Senate committee just voted a pro weed thingy through earlier this week.  It was a close vote, but still went through committee.

Edit: just looked it up.  It was to allow weed vendors access to banking.  Big move, because up until now, even legal weed sellers were cash biz's.  This is the first step to much bigger steps.

Article was in politico today.

The marijuana laws are all backwards. It should be legal federally (all drugs should) and then the states should be left to decide what they want to criminalize.

Unfortunately I feel like Kansas just wants to compete with Alabama and see who can be the most conservative state.  I think it could be a long time before it's legal here.  I believe 7 state are going to vote on legalizing it next year and we don't even have medicinal marijuana yet.

Yeah, Kansas sucks. We won't have legal pot until the Republican Party decides to officially support it.

If Jesus turned tobacco into pot, rather than water to wine, it would be legal now, probs.

Yeah. Wine wouldn't be, though.

Kansas is in so much financial trouble that it seems like the legalization of marijuana makes a lot of sense.  But at least we shouldn't be jailing people for the possession of an ounce of pot.  Anyone know if the decriminalization of marijuana in Wichita is in affect yet?

I think they decided not to decriminalize it after all because the state sued them.

D.A.R.E. even supports legalization.  At least for a few hours they did. http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2015/07/dare-calls-for-marijuana-legalization.html

Can't Obama sign an executive order making marijuana a schedule 2 or 3 drug? that would actually be a good executive order that everyone can get behind.
