You don't have to recruit a bunch of studs to be better than 80 in KP.

If only we had the players that Valpo/Green Bay/Rhode Island/Buffalo/Temple/Richmond had, then we could really be good. Poor little Manhattan, can't compete with the blue bloods on the recruiting trail.

in the new big 12, k-state is likely going to be the 7th or 8th best team on a yearly basis, it is what it is.  :frown:

j rake is building a very compelling argument for firing oscar right now. Too bad he's preaching to the choir, though. He should give this info to Currie.

the 8-10 vs 4-14 is due primarily to 2 things:
1) Seniors in Gip and Nino that have experienced wining and expect to win
2) An actual home court advantage

#2 is the big one.

if the fans continue to support the team, i actually think oscar will be fine. the guy has been dominant at home, even this year, his worst team up against the best opponents the big 12 has ever had. in three years, oscar is 8-1, 8-1 and 7-2 at home. that's 23-4 at home. that's incredible. when you're that good at home, you can afford to be way below average on the road (3-6 yearly) and still make the ncaa tourney regularly.

i would strongly suggest oscar stop scheduling hard non-con games away from home in the future. there will be plenty of opportunities to get quality wins in league play under the current scheduling format, and with the league's quality being where it is.

IMO, players get up for big games.  Coaches get players up for the other games.

oscar seems to have almost zero motivational skills. his pregame speech prior to the '05 national title game will go down as one of the worst in history.

conversely, oscar may have also given one of the best motivational speeches of all time

In all seriousness, as I've said many times, oscar seems like a guy who's goofed into every position he's gotten and doesn't really know why he's here. Like he doesn't really want to be a coach, it just sorta happened and gee here I am let's make the most of it.

It's in the comments section, but honestly it really does look like a player drinks from a flask at the end of michcat's clip.

his worst team up against the best opponents the big 12 has ever had.

this is not true, or at least it's very debatable.  the conference had a stronger overall kenpom in 2010.  in almost every other year there was a much stronger team than any team this year (ku).  in many years, the top two were significantly better.

it was arguably easier to beat the top two teams at home this year than it has been in most years.  2013 and 2014 were also on the easier end of the scale for recent history, 2014 about as easy as it has ever been in big 12 history.

Also likely the most difficult year to win on the road at the bottom 3.

my god that 2008 ku team.  holy eff.  in kenpom history (2002-2015), it's 2015 uk #1, 2008 ku #2.  and 2015 uk's kenpom could still drop before the year closes.

Good with someone else’s players, not good with his own.

“A little bit, yeah,” Weber says when asked if that part bothers him. “As a coach, every person, you have pride. The thing that bothers me the most is I went to (Southern Illinois) and the program was in really bad shape. And my guys went to the Sweet 16, won (two) straight Missouri Valley championships, and every kid got a degree. That was with my guys. And even at Illinois, we had a pretty good nine-year run.”
