Lets see.  The Big 12 get $10MM from CU & $10MM from NU for leaving. UT & OU in the Big 12 get to keep the sweet TV revenue sharing deal if the Big 12 stays in tact.  What happens to the current TV contacts if NU & Cu leave the conference?  I would guess they could be terminated/renegotiated.  Potential for a big TV deal for the Big 12 with the Fox contract that expires soon and termination of the other contract due to schools leaving.  Add Houston, Boise St, BYU, Utah, ND, & Louisville (Cinci if MU leaves) to the remaining 10 Big 12 schools and the  potential for a huge TV deal gets greater.

Watch out mother frackers, Beebe/Dodds are about to construct a monster.

 :powerespect: :powerespect: :powerespect:

KSUBrian, what's your position on which conference we should go to when/if the Big 12 collapses?  MWC will still allow for some long road trips by car where you could pound beers out of a cooler on the passenger seat.  You'd have to fly to the Big East towns, but could likely get hammered on the plane and then rent a car and drive to the hotel or wherever.  :dunno:

Much prefer being able to drive.  With all the Homeland Security crap, you can get in big trouble being drunk on an airplane.

There's no doubt that the MWC will allow for some amazing road trips (especially for Coloradans, who will never have to go back to Kansas to see the Cats again), but it will be brutal for basketball.

So what do we care more about?  The Big East will be ok for football and sorta good for basketball, unless you count the fact that the best we could hope for is about a 6th place finish.  In the Mountain West we could roll off a string of 30 win seasons, but still end up like New Mexico and get a 3 seed anyway.

I hope that those who are saying run to the MWC are ready to increase their Ahearn Donations dramatically.  Because that's what it's going to take to overcome the $4 to $7 million dollar hit that K-State will take based on TV revenue, non automatic BCS bid for the conference and bad bowl tie-ins.

Based on todays' numbers that's a 10% to 20% drop in K-State's athletic budget.

Goodbye Frank . . . hello SLTH, kiss any chance of landing Gary Patterson or any coach like him goodbye.

i'm not increasing crap.
those of you who have been chugging the koolaid need to realize that we've been midmajor since before we joined the b12.  our teams have been acting like it for the past 20+ years, now it's time that our fans started to.

Well K-State may have been acting like a mid major from a dumbass management perspective, but K-State outspends most mid majors by $10 to $15 million dollars a year on athletics and in most cases less than 50% of that spending gap comes from bowl revenue/tv revenue.   The majority of that gap is generated by ticket sales and contributions.   Setting some the outliers aside, if K-State is back up in the $11 to $12 million dollar per year contribution range, that is more than many major conference schools get per year in contributions and most mid majors are 1/3 of that at best.   The only "mid major" that is up with K-State on expenditures that I've seen is TCU.    So yeah, I completely agree that from a management perspective K-State has been extremely amateurish, but I am not with you on the rest.

I'm saying that as we officially assume the role of a mid major, our contributions should do the same.
Our university and athletic dept management has been mid major.
Our teams, for the most part, have been mid major (sometimes, at best).
The only puzzle piece that hasn't been mid major is our fanbase ->  we've convinced ourselves that we belong with the big boys so we support our team/university as best we can, hence the donations/contribution levels that you pointed out.

You play the "too cool for school" role a little too hard clams . . . I understand though.

And yeah, we take the mid major, contributions stay the same we take a $4 to $7 million dollar hit . . . and even though you won't admit it you'll be pissed off when we Frank is gone and 2 SLTH nobodies are coaching football and basketball.

life will be so much easier when we're done trying to be something that we're not.

Maybe so, but when you break down the numbers there's at least 20 other BCS conference schools who are "pretenders".

That shouldn't be news to anybody.  I'd argue that there's a hell of a lot more than 20 pretenders.  There's about a dozen or so elites, the rest are just their fundraising pawns.  The PAC 10 didn't invite CU into their conference for the betterment of CU.

I agree, and I understand.  But you're really not helping your argument any.

I'd take 30 win seasons and 3 seed invites to the NCAA, much better than most of the last 20 years!

Boise State will join Mountain West Conference today

Several pages back someone posted the MWC saying they are putting a hold on any expansion for the time being.  Way of saying, "hold on there KSU/KU, what makes you think we want you? Where did all of that talk come from?"  :dunno:

Chance MWC doesn't even want us? Have they indicated in any way that they do?  :embarrassed:

Maybe MWC is trying gussy themselves up to be as close to a "super conference" as they possibly can be . . .  Boise State makes 10, they then get to pick amongs the carcass of the Big 12 refugees.

If they add Boise State, that means they will have schools that have played in a combined 5 BCS bowl games in the last 5 years.    Toss in Baylor, ISU, and K-State, that's 3 former BCS conference schools.   Applying for a BCS automatic just got a lot easier, and a lot harder for the BCS to deny.

Basically the MWC is two steps ahead of the BigXII.  Shocking...

Not sure they'd take ISU or Baylor.

They are playing the CU presser.

They are talking about "vision" and "legacy" and a commitment to "sustainability" of the environment.  Just got done with a Walt Whitman reading.  It is lovely.

Gary Barnett joined us on the BP this AM. He says, if there are no defections, other than Neb, by today, Big 12 has better than 50-50 chance

Barnett says folks in the Big 12 tell him they’ll try to add Arkansas and TCU. Podcast should be up shortly.

they prob wouldnt just wand ISU by themselves but if they can get some other big 12 schools they would prob take em. they already have one small texas based religious school in tcu might as well add another in baylor. never hurts to have more of a presence in texas. if baylor can hold onto scott drew they will continue to be solid in basketball.

One thing that's funny about CU going to the Pac 10 if the whole Pac 16 scenario works out is how both sides gush about what a great fit CU is for the current conference yet they'd be in the Texas/Oklahoma/Arizona division.
