Prob cause the other conferences already have deals in place with networks to televise their games.  Yeah, if the Big 11 wants the rights to televise ISU @ Nubb, they got a shot.  But all the good games are already locked up.  Hell, even the shitty games are at least broadcast locally.

If and when the Big XII effectively dissolves in the next few months and KU will be courted to join another expanding BCS conference, what in honesty is stopping them?  A lawsuit?  Some really mean threats about losing some state funding that already is basically non-existant?

This notion that the board of regents is obligated to keep us joined at the hip for all of eternity is about the most asinine thing I've ever heard.

Time to check the denial and face the music.  This aint a package deal.  And whatever KU decides to do in the next few months has no bearing whatsoever on us.

Ya, I don't think that there is any question about whether we would want THEM, it's really about whether they would want US.  In my conference-end-of-days scenario above, they may have their pick between the ACC and the Big (cough, cough) 12.

Yeah, none of the stuff you posted is happening so I'm not worried about it.  Just saying that in this particular hypothetical that's not happening we would have an amazing basketball conference.  

Why don't you just give up in believing in God and just send me emails?  I have a very good service level agreement (mostly just a boiler plate thing) that I'll send you, and if you'd just fill that out before we get started, and send it to me, that would be great.

why don't they just strike an advantageous deal with another conference to broadcast the other conference's games.  they could take a substantial cut and still leave the other conference feeling grateful.

it seems like that'd be a lot simpler than expansion.  and just as lucrative for the current 11 schools, if not more so.

yeah, it's a good idea.  you could even add in an eastern/southern conference too (acc, big east, cusa, a-10, whatever).


it would be some work though.  why wouldn't it be easier for the big 10 network to pick off one or more of those conferences' games now?  they've already got the network going, no need to build anything, they head off the possibility of future competition from a combined conf network, etc.

If you have the means, then HIGHLY recommend that you get a membership to GPC this month.  The current reading over there is particularly compelling.  Thread, after thread, after thread of really solid ideas about how Santa Clause, two mermaids and a unicorn are going to help us pull out of this formerly certain disaster.

They're kind of snobby, but they're also crazy about east-coast bias (which is very real).  They'd have no shot w/ their own network simply because of time zones.   A big 12/Pac 10 network would pretty much own every market west of the Mississippi, and still get the network more east coast exposure than a pac 10 only network would.

Sitting in my office working on the new issue of Powercat Illustrated and knowing there's nothing I can do about the conference expansion, etc., so I am not too worked up. Everyone swears Commish Beebe is on top of it, but we will see. Bottom line, as long as Texas, Texas A&M and OU stick, the conference will remain in some form. Texas has continually blocked a conference TV network, so why would it move to a conference with that plan on the table and equal TV revenue sharing in place?

If Colorado, Nebraska and Missouri all leave, my preference would be to go after Louisville, Memphis and Cincinnati, which are all strong TV markets. TCU, Houston, BYU, New Mexico and UNLV are out there, too. I know these super conferences are driven by football, but imagine a bball division with KU, KSU, Louisville, Memphis and Cincy. Holy cow.

We will see what happens. There's not a thing I can do about it and after the chips fall, I will deal with it accordingly.
