Yea I really don't understand why they don't want a conference championship.
-The schools that we want to add don't want to be in a division with KU, KSU, ISU, & WVU
-The Texas/Oklahoma schools don't want to be split up and have to have some screwed up scheduling scheme to keep playing each other
-Add to the 2 points above that in any division split it would be very difficult to have UT/OU/FSU/Clem/ND (pipe dream) consistantly playing eachother without 1 loaded division and 1 weak division
-The only way to keep the current conference leaders (OU/UT) happy and make the league set-up so that FSU/Clem/ND (pipe dream) would come is with the no-division plan
-Bonus: no last week game to greatly damage the losers chance of being in the top 4. This set up is greatly advantagous if they go with a 3-and-1 playoff model where most other conferences will have their 2nd best team have a loss on Dec. 4th.
The more I think about it as a business move for the conference, its rough ridin' genius if they go with the 3-and-1 model and maybe the only way we get FSU. If we want to chase the pipe dream of a 12-team conference with ND, this is by far the best option we have at landing them. If UT is still pushing/hoping that 0.01% chance it happens, this talk bumps it to a 0.03% chance. Falls under the "the best business move is to keep the cash cow happy" to keep talking about it if UT wants to talk about it.
