Nobody is moving conferences (yet) and nothing is going to happen until mid-June at the earliest.

Is this the conference with the singing troubadour a la Oklahoma's?
Sources indicate an agreement to bring Notre Dame’s Olympic sports to the Big 12 for 2014 is near. Then in 2017 the Notre Dame brand will transition completely to the Big 12.Where the growth comes fromIf Notre Dame becomes a full member by 2017 the Big 12 is expected to go to 16 teams. The 14th, 15th, and 16th teams are coming down to a group of schools. Here are the thoughts on each school from a media source on teams 14-16.Georgia Tech brings a large market in Atlanta, a brand recognized across the country, and solid sports from top to bottom.North Carolina/North Carolina State will likely split with one going to the SEC and the other the Big 12. NCSU brings better football currently, while UNC brings a true blueblood basketball school to match with either Kansas or Kentucky.Virginia Tech has reached out to the SEC to move with one of the North Carolina schools. If that were to fall through the Big 12 could be the landing spot. Our media source believes the SEC could balk due to the recent CBS stance on their recent additions not increasing the media. The media source still expects ESPN to increase their payout for an extended contract.Louisville operates in the black, spends money, great facilities, makes sense for a bridge from ISU to Notre Dame, and brings elite basketball to any conference. The negative is they do not move the needle. Another factor is if they were promised a spot by the past leadership of the conference when it came down to the Cardinals or Mountaineers.Maryland has the backing of a prominent alumnus, but are seen as second to third in their own state.Pitt is seen as a natural team to come with Notre Dame, but again the media source believes Notre Dame would have to drag them into conference with stronger teams and markets ahead of the Panthers.Miami was approached and the Canes were not interested. Since the announcement of the Big 12/SEC Champions Bowl their interest has increased, but the looming sanctions and poor facilities have them down the list. The media source says if the sanctions were not there and Miami committed to improving their facilities they would be a shoe in for inclusion. Without those assurances Miami seems to be outside looking in.Dates to watchMay 30th is the Big 12 meetings and information from the conference should flow out that week and into the weekend.June 15th the Big 12 will become Bob Bowlsby officially.June 18th could be the day we hear a school give notice to the ACC they will explore their opportunities. Another source stated the next will notify the ACC on June 25thJune 20th is the BCS vote to determine if the Conference Champions model is approved. If so, this could speed up the Notre Dame decision.Brian Ethridge is co-publisher of BearsTruth
If all this ND talk is true, there better be an iron rough ridin' clad contract that has their football in the conference after the nbc thing runs out.
Dear BCS, we don't give a crap if you approve of our new bowl. Thanks anyway.Sincerely, Big 12 and SEC.
Do not want 16 teams.
More than anything throughout this, I've learned that contracts are made to be broken.
As long as we/Big12 are the one doing the breaking, I am fine.

Quote from: PowercatPat on May 23, 2012, 04:29:42 PMDo not want 16 teams.I don't really either, but what would you say if VT, UNC, FSU, CU, ND, and GT said they'd all come together? Won't happen but def would take.

"GT LobbyistI don't post often, but I thought I would add this piece of relevant info that I received today from a friend in Atlanta. This fella worked several years in the GT AD and recently left, but still has lots of friends there and he has spoken with many of them about the potential Big12 move. The interesting thing he highlighted from several conversations is the fact that GT has attempted to enlist the aid of ESPN in placing leverage on Big12 schools to consider them over Clemson as the 12th team. He cites the ongoing "unique" relationship with GT and ESPN and that the network has a strong voice in who is taken.Basically, GT does what it is told by ESPN (Thursday games, advertising assists, logo and mascot requests, etc.) and ESPN appreciates the level of influence they have. He claims they operate more on the "pro team" model since that is their market and Clemson pushes back on ESPN on too many things. As a college team, their claim goes, Clemson is too concerened with appeasing its fan base and alumni and that has been voiced to the network via the ACC as well.Take it for what it's worth folks, as this does constitute third hand info, but I found it interesting to say the least."
