With Pitt and SU to ACC and UT, TT, OU, OSU to PAC appearing certain, the only plausible scenario for the way this will end is:

Rutgers and UConn to ACC

WVU, Cincy, Louisville to SEC

KSU, KU, MU, ISU to big 10

Baylor and S. Fla get left out.

Those are your four 16 team super conferences.  And that actually does a decent job with regard to geography and historical rivalries.

That's not plausible at all.

True, but he's gone too far now.  They all have.  At some point, when you've pushed it this far to the brink, odds are someone's going to push the red button, and you need to have a fallout strategy.

We're a non-horrible fallout strategy because we're not God-awful in anything, our administration is good, and we won't make any sort of trouble for you.  We also have a gigantic federal research facility plopping right onto our campus in the next few years with billions of research dollars flowing through and a number of private research firms getting ready to orbit said facility in Manhattan.

People really want to discount the fact that we're currently in the midst of dumping $80 million in facilities upgrades and totally write off our value.  We're fiscally sound.  We have a very aggressive and prudent strategy on the academic side to increase our research and overall standing.

I know everyone wants to be all down on our prospects because that's what we do here, but really, if you were looking at us, we're a value stock that's trending up.  You can debate how much, but we are trending up.

It looks like Texas' only options are the PAC and the Big 12. They aren't going to try to save the Big 12 without OU, so the OU/OSU/KU/KSU scenario just is not going to happen.

Texas has infinite options should they be willing to dump the LHN.

The Big 10 would take them in a heartbeat, and they may be able to pair up with ND and maybe dictate some terms.

That's what I don't understand. All I've heard the past two days from Chip Brown and Bohls are that it looks like the Pac is Texas' only option now.

That's complete horseshit. They can do whatever the hell they want, no?

None of these conferences (sec, pac, big 10 and now the acc) have to expand from where they are at.  It hasn’t gone too far at all.  They were practically in the same spot last year.  Scott’s play to add CU and Utah was only to position itself in a better spot to force UT’s hand because he would have had a year to validate that he wasn’t kidding on what he said he could deliver.  That’s why the pac won’t expand to include ksu/ku because they don’t have to.  It does nothing for them.  Quite frankly, it would be beyond stupid to do so.

Yes.

Every conference would reserve two spots for Texas and Notre Dame.  They would also have some sort of contingency plan should Texas or ND come knocking at their door.

The problem is in the "zipper".  The political and logistical nightmare of the seven team divisions is going to make staying at 14 extremely unattractive.

You're going to create a conference that spans from LA and Seattle to Norman, OK, and they're going to find a way to make it so every group gets access to LA?

The current configuration in the Pac-12 was fraught with discontent when there was mention that the Washington and Oregon schools would get cut out of California.  Can you imagine how much the Arizona, Mountain, and Oklahoma schools would wail if they were stuck in a division that only allowed them to play in LA in the championship game?

The Pac must have pods.  Must.  Otherwise, they won't get the votes.  And to have pods, you have to have sixteen.  The SEC may be able to get away with two gigantic divisions because one has access to Texas and the other has access to Florida.  The Pac schools, sans Texas, must have access to LA.  The only way you get that is with four pods.

Is there some benefit that we have a smart AD padding his resume at the same time we're going through conference realignment--will Currie manage to do something miraculous as part of his effort to get to a bigger athletic dept?

they were all just happily moseying along waiting to renegotiate a fat new TV contract w/ NBC and then BOOM! woke up Saturday morning in the ACC. It's like a microburst storm or something for them, where we've been in like the biggest downpour hurricane thingy in history.
