a conference made up of that group of loser schools and the even loserier schools we could draw in would be just awful.  do not want.

I thought this is sort of what the Captain Crap was saying would occur when he suggested everything would be OK no matter what.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

well, if that's the case, he and I differ on what we consider OK.

I suppose you can read into what was said however you want...

I've said it multiple times, we will be fine regardless. Everybody just needs to be patient. Take all news with a grain of salt, especially national media people.

We will be in a BCS AQ league.

...but I don't get that he was implying a leftover league at all.

has a school ever been downgraded league wise before?? Seems like a shitty thing to happen.

I think people are saying we could keep a "Big 12 conference" together, collect the exit fees, then dissolve the conference and join another. But that probably wouldn't work too well.

At worst we keep the 4 schools no one wants, Add High Mid-Majors and Big East misfits and keep the Big 12.

Any attempt to do this would be a complete waste of time. Be proactive now and make sure this Big East thing is going to happen immediately when the Big 12 finally falls apart.

Exactly the ones leaving will nuke the conference on there way out. What we need to do IF all else fails is work with them to keep the conference together, no charge them there exit fees and be able to keep the Big 12 going with new members. And have them loby with the other Super C's to let us keep the BCS AQ.

This is worst case situation iMO.

Here's what we know, yesterday was a national holiday and the weather was really nice.  Digging deeper than that journalistically is completely pointless.

No, and no one at K-State is capable of reading David Boren's mind. Heck, I don't think OU knows what it's going to do right now. I know everyone wants answers, but there are none right now. None. K-State has no cards to play until the fate of the Big 12 is sorted out.

I know you're frustrated, but I'm not going to pull a Chip and write about every possible scenario as what's going on that moment.

I stand by this: I said on the site Saturday that Texas doesn't want the Big 12 to break up and OU is posturing. I have been given no different information from the people I know who are close to the situation, but at this point I'd rather trust a politician than some of these university presidents.

As I've said on Wabash, if the Big 12 shatters, K-State will either end up in a west division of the Big East, or in a conference with schools from the Big East.

Now, I apologize for not being on here all day, but it was a national holiday and a beautiful day. Home improvements and a glimpse of Miami football (and a troubling eye full of Maryland's uniforms) were on my agenda. I'm also writing the postgame grades.

Coach Snyder has said on the record, and Coach Martin has tweeted, that there's no use fretting over things you cannot control and this is one of them. Is it major? Probably more for me than you because it could impact my livelihood, but only if you stop being a K-State fan because the Cats are in the Big East.

John Currie spoke at Saturday's game and didn't say anything other than he too still thinks the conference will survive. That still matches up with what I've been told by others. So, unless one of you has an inside line on the innermost thoughts of OU's president, I don't know what else to tell you.

Fitz hit the nail on the head, no one really knows anything, and it is a beautiful time of the year, so let the ones who need to worry about this whole miss and those of us that have no pull just sit back and have a good fall. I refuse to worry about things I have no dam control over, and that is probably why I have lived so long.

with word that the big 10 and pac 10 are happy at 12 teams for now, is the sec, which has always been content at 12 teams and which is truly worried about starting the demise of the big 12, really going to vote to take on a&m?  looks like it could be a huge a&m facepant to me.

I don't want a Houston, SMU, Air Force, CO State, KSU, KU, ISU, Baylor, random other garbage commuter school, and MU if they don't go to the SEC no matter what.  Regional rivalry/rivalries can kiss my ass at that point.  That's not the New Big 12, that's the New Conference USA.

Actually, I applaud Fitz for using discretion when it is needed the most. Media and 'journalists' have been making conference realignment worse, not better. If there was ever a time where Fitz should NOT try to play a real life journalist, it is now. Just let that subscription money roll in and enjoy a drink next door big guy.

In other news....Stoops said he doesn't think the Red River shootout is necessary. ShaggyBevo fans are in a tizzy. Pretty lol.

I am 50:50.

The new midwest conference will be on a lower tier and therefore hurt ksu sports, but it will something that still belongs to "us" if you know what I mean.

The Big East will be good for attention and be an upper tier, but it just seems we would be disconnected and the conference would feel too big.

I would applaud it to if it was really discretion and not laziness.

Either way, in the end he'll take credit for whatever the outcome.  He's called his shot either way.

Oh, no doubt it would suck, but at least we would still be able to travel to road games. We don't really have to worry about it though. There's no way that KU, K-State, and MU would take that over the Big East. If K-State gets left behind, there is still the Big East, but it will suck balls if Iowa State is the closest team we play.

a conference made up of that group of loser schools and the even loserier schools we could draw in would be just awful.  do not want.

I thought this is sort of what the Captain Crap was saying would occur when he suggested everything would be OK no matter what.

I suppose you can read into what was said however you want...

I've said it multiple times, we will be fine regardless. Everybody just needs to be patient. Take all news with a grain of salt, especially national media people.

We will be in a BCS AQ league.

...but I don't get that he was implying a leftover league at all.

i was thinking more about this exchange.....

Or we stay put, stick with TX, and watch a few nice schools come into the conf to fill it back up.

Prolly wouldn't work.  Other schools would need a year to bail from their conferences.  UT could go indy for a year, but no one else could afford to.

so would those defecting from our conf.

Even if it just dissolved at once?  So if this were to happen tomorrow we'd have 1 year in the 10 team big 12?  Doesn't seem likely.

When we were 12, iirc, the rule was that it took 8 votes to dissolve.  Don't know what the new rules are, but it seems like 4 would be too few to make that vote happen.

Just FYI, if a school announces an intention to leave the conference, they don't get a vote on conference matters. This includes the vote on whether to dissolve. So if the south schools had left for the Pac10, the remaining 4 north schools would be the only voting members left. They would have not voted to dissolve (keep the BCS auto bid, brand name etc) and would have collected liquidated damages $$ from 8 schools (around $80M or more split 4 ways).

If this hypothetical actually happened I think legally it would not have been so cut and dry.  Any good attorney can question what constitutes a conference and what doesn't, there would be some ambiguity here.

If no other schools came forward to replace those that left, then yes, that would be a problem in having a 4 team league. In this "hypothetical", the ruling from not-so-hypothetical lawyers involved indicated that since there was an understanding that other schools would be replacing those that left, the Big 12 would continue and not be dissolved - thus resulting in straight cash, homey.
