Sure, OU has a good athletic history.  But enrollment at UT-Austin is consistently 20,000+ higher than OU.  That's thousands of additional students (fans) attending UT year-after-year-after-year that OU hasn't been churning out.  UT has one of the largest alumni associations in the world.  Plus, the Austin metro area is larger than the Norman/Oklahoma City metro area.

An OU network is not a slam dunk.  I'd agree that A&M has a good shot at getting a network before OU.

So OU has 3000 more on campus than K-State. Yes they may have a long sustained tradition but alumni are what generate your fan base out side your state. The numbers are not there.

OU is a nice, mid west school.  They have some tradition but their tradition means as much Georgia's for example.  In a smaller, poorer state.

You're completely ignoring the fact that a large chunk of OU fans are NOT alumni.  So you can show enrollment numbers all you want, but that means jack for this discussion.  Teams like OU gather up large amounts of non-attending fans (bandwagon, t-shirt fans, whatever you'd like to call them) and THOSE people are huge for ratings.
