Nope, no minimum threshold.  I would be 100% against it. You need to set concrete goals and a semi-definitive path for all teams to get a spot. If you are a team from the "group of 5" well then you better schedule and beat enough teams to get you ranked higher than your buddies.  Sure there will be some subjectivity still, but chances are if you go undefeated in your shitty conference and knock off a p5 team (or two) you will get in.

no p5 team has room to complain.  you want in? win your conference or schedule and win enough impressive games to get a wildcard spot.

I'm good with your plan and would totally sign off if each conference got their monetary share from their conference champ, the G5 conferences split their share evenly, and the wildcard spots don't come with an additional cut for the conference the school is affiliated with. Those are just distributed evenly among the P5 conferences.

That will take some of the conspiracy out of the process.

The threshold should just be that they are ranked. If there are no ranked teams then g5 can GTFO.

Edit: and yes, there is no way the playoff expands to 8 and doesn't give the 5 power conference champs an auto bid. There can be a fierce debate as to who should really get spots 6-8, but no P5 team could REALLY complain that much when all they had to do was win their conference.

No team ranked less than 10th should be allowed in the CFP, period.

No, i don't want a playoff that could have a team like this year's USC in it if they would have pulled off an upset in one game. If you're going to an 8 team playoff do it with the 8 that are considered the 8 best teams, not with automatic bids.

I can get behind this, a lot. Don't even care about scott's upset possibility because at most 1 or 2 teams get in via upset, which still leaves 6-7 teams that everyone can agree belong there for sure with the addition of a potential cinderella story line for the upset team or two that gets in. That makes for compelling tv, and compelling tv = higher ratings which = more $$$ Plus, there is the possibility that said upset team gets in regardless and setting up rematches, which is also compelling.

You're missing the larger point. It is impossible to tell who the best teams are when all the teams play all but one (maybe two) games either within their conference or against scrubs. This is why all P5 conferences should have a rep in the playoff, not simply for the sake of equity.

I like the human element being one (of many) factors.  Absolutely allow the formula to be transparent.  That's my beef with the committee.  Just a bunch of subjective bull crap.  Hell, I'd even be down to tweak it so the Playoff Committee just replaces the coaches' poll in the formula. 

The BCS ranking system wasn't broken.  I have no clue why expanding to 4 teams meant we had to replace how the top teams were selected.
