One rumor sweeping the Big 12 late Monday was the suggestion that Texas, A&M and Oklahoma — and only those Big 12 schools — would reap the reward from the sizable penalties the league will try to extract from Nebraska and Colorado. No one would confirm that, but it would be dead-on wrong if that were the case. But if not, that's one more reason for the Missouris and Baylors to be suspicious of the big boys' intentions.

 

The ONE thing that this process has been is transparent to all parties who are at the Olive Garden table.

If this is true, and I have no reason to believe that it isn't, it's totally rough ridin' worth it, and the Seven Dwarfs agreed to it.  There is no "surprise" here, except for the fans.

I gotta back TCU here for a bit.  They have a stadium that is 40,000+ and I believe drew nearly 47,000 for their game against Utah last season.  The stadium has recently been approved for a $100 million+ renovation that is supposed to take capacity to 50,000.  Play some better competition and fans would show up.  Guarantee they fill their stadium for games against Texas, A&M, Tech, OU, etc.  Hell I would go to more of their games if they played better teams.  They are a much better draw than Colorado.

There are a lot of people in DFW who are alum of the other Texas schools obviously, but there is a pretty serious lack of interest in the Whataburger 10 Conference in DFW relatively speaking.  Its all about the NFC East around here and college is an after thought.  Throw a local team in the mix and maybe that changes.

Buffs seem excited being put in division with USC & UCLA:

The resurrection of the Big 12 is great news not only for that conference, it appears to be great news for the University of Colorado.

Sources close to C.U. have told CBS4 Sports the Buffs are projected to be in a 6 team division in the new Pac-10. The Buffs will be joined by USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State and probably Utah, which is expected to receive an invitation to join the Pac-10.

That means USC and UCLA will be regular vistors to Boulder once the new conference officially begins competing in 2012.

The remaining teams in the conference that will make up the Pac-10 North are:

Cal-Berkeley
Stanford
Oregon
Oregon State
Washington
Washington State

According to the source, this collection of interested and influential people made phone calls, visited in person and held conference calls with the Big 12 schools that were being pursued, including Texas, as well as Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe. The influential group also helped broker the new television deal between Texas (and the other schools considering leaving the conference) and Beebe, who represented the remaining Big 12 schools.

According to the source, there was a growing sense that the Pac-10 was taking an approach inconsistent with the best interests and values of the schools impacted, both positively and negatively.
