yes kids want to play and some will leave but if I am a coach at a SEC school I show the kids I want to keep the SEC domination in NFL draft picks and tell the kid to be patient.

Add in the fact SEC schools with a larger NIL budget can keep paying thousands of dollars for kids that have not gotten on the field because of what they have seen in practice vs a school like KSU will need to throw a higher NIL number based only on HS performance and/or limited on field scouting which will be very similar to Tang's gang of 2 ppg, 4 stars transfers.

I don't believe the NCAA can legally enforce a salary cap on NIL and the result is CFB starts down a path similar to the what happened with English soccer clubs but without "official" regulation.

so the question will be if NIL + greyshirt = no limit on scholarships?

I thought it was more like 120 or so on scholarship at NU or OU before the limit was put in but the above will make it harder to pull late bloomers from TX, GA, FL l, etc when a class is never full

120 is what the scholarship limit was before 85 and they would sign 120 then have a billion "walk ons." There were also no real restrictions on "walk ons" back then so they were just circumventing the supposed 120 limit.

Definitely true.  The OUs and NUs of the day would have at least 200 kids on their teams.  NU used to have a freshman team that would play Jucos to get experience.

Big programs would stockpile better bodies on their 5th string than a KSU often lined up as starters.  Especially in the skill positions.

Not sure you can do that today with the world of the transfer portal and every game being on TV (in the old days, there were maybe 3 games on a week, period.  It was insane).

I don't think a lot of companies will spend NIL money on players that don't see the field outside of maybe a QB.  I also don't think that players will be happy practicing but not playing year after year.  They could go to KSU and play 2-3 years, prove themselves, then transfer to Bama if they think that helps their NFL stock.

Loosening a bunch of restrictions will inevitably help the bigger programs with nearly unlimited resources, but I don't think this will make a massive difference.  Bama/LSU/OSU/etc may hoard some talent initially but if those players don't have a clear path to the field after a year, a lot will leave.

Of course, the portal is the saving grace with the unlimited NIL contracts of the blue blood schools.  As it shows with coaches already bickering between themselves in the SEC.  Kids want to play and this is why coaches want to limit athletics from using the portal.  They're talking about windows for transfer times; it's another way to control the movement of talented players.  They want lasting results for their money and stop them from playing at school with lesser funds that can offer "playing time".  The players know there is no other way to get drafted by the NFL without an outstanding record and that can be achieved at nonblue-blood schools.

Our reinforcements (non-nutjob division) have secured their AAC exits and are officially arriving next year.  We may be at fourteen members for up to two years.

how embarassing will it be for ou/tex to lose to these new schools.  they'll probably pony up and pay whatever to get out next year and avoid the embarassment

Definitely, no way OU/UT could handle losing to a Houston or Cincinnati.

UT is used to it (Kansas) but OU would implode if they lost to Houston.

So this will be the last year of the Big 12 as we've known it since, 2012?

To answer both of your observations, OU lost to Houston just a few years ago and there has never been a tradition in the Big XII.

Once you get over 12 teams its hard to have 2 separate divisions and make everything work. I like the ACC plan but the OG Big12 conference was the best. Play everyone in your division and then home and home with every other team within 4 years. We had it so good.  :bawl:

I’m looking forward to the day when we are in the FCS

Do not fall into the trap of dumb money.

There are multiple schools in the SEC who will way overpay their coaches and not win anything.

Remember, there's a set of schools in the SEC who combined have gone around 3 or 4 centuries without winning a conference championship in football, and they're not going to be winning one anytime soon.

Take all the leftovers. Maybe not Oregon State and Washington State.

Exactly. plus Boise. Need this conference anchored in the plains and mountains/SW
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.
