I did actual gross farm type work for like 4 hours yesterday. Most of it was clearing out dead weeds with a weed whip and moving dead tree limbs/rocks so my brother could mow everything.

I'm basically a black belt in using one of these things now

My goal is to Clear out all the dead tree's/limbs in the old "Orchard" area of the farm where there are a couple of apple/cherry tree's surrounding an collapsed barn holding antique farming equipment (I think its some old timey discer/planter tool). Every year at the end of the summer my dad grabs around 5-10 fruit tree's that are on clearance at walmart and plants them so we should be fruit barons in a couple of years.

Here is the Orchard area after I cleaned it up a bit (previously the old barn was not visible under dead limbs etc)

Grain drills for seeding wheat.  That second one with big iron wheels and wooden seed box was probably horse drawn.

Benji once you get that IH 300 on the homestead pull those grain drills out of the barn.

I want to see this in the daylight.  Might be a hit and miss motor.

Corn planted 4/8.  Its sprouted which is good given our cold snap.  Now it needs to get above ground.

Tom just Knocked this one out of the park, an old Fairbanks Morse Hit N Miss motor was back there. We have to cut up 2 dead tree's to move anything out of there so it will be a while.

Are these collector items worth money or just junk?

Do they live through the baling process?

Seven, some do and some don't.  The baler squeezes the eff out of them.  Reminds me of one summer back in HS when a couple of buddies and I would load bales from the field for farmers.  One would be on the bale wagon, while the other two would pick up and throw them on the wagon.  Every once in a while there would be a snake tied in the bale.  If we were nice we would just yell "SNAKE" before the bale was tossed.  Most of the snakes were harmless, but the occasional live Bull snake would hiss and bite anything that got near it.  We had a guy who was scared shitless of snakes.  For laughs and kicks, we would toss a bale on the wagon and wait to yell "snake" as he picked up the bale.  It made the day go by in a fun way, cause most of the time he would scream and jump off the wagon and call us every name under the sun.
Hot time in Kat town tonight.

If there was a ratter on a bale we didn't eff around.  Usually would chop the snake's head off, that way it couldn't bite anyone.  I almost forgot to mention, since there weren't very many snakes we would take fireweed stick and put it under the string of a bale.  They are crooked and about the same size of typical snake, so worked great as a snake substitute.  It works great at scaring the crap out of anyone grabbing a bale as we yelled "SNAKE".

No model# but I googled the HP/RPM combo and someone is selling a running one for $1500.

Do people actual use these things for work or are they just collector's pieces?

Hit-n-miss engines have a strong following.  P'burg KS has an active club and a large show/swap meet in the fall.  Neat as hell to watch and hear them run.

I have a 3hp Witte hit-n-miss.

DO NOT throw it away!

Dunno but I'm going to go into a 100+ year old barn that is falling down to dig this sucker out.

The cats are going to be eating filet mignon if we can find a buyer.

Can a high farming IQ person explain to me the purpose for the hit-n-miss motor functioning the way it does, all wonky and such? What's up with that?
