Those two are #1's dogs.  Daisy and Diesel.  They needed some farm time, and wore Tater out.

KDOT/KTA auctions it off in various lengths and quantities a couple times a year.

It's great for corrals, feed bunks, etc.

Hey tom, I found a new piece of machinery out in the big barn mounted to a wall while I was out chasing pheasants. Is this another drill bit type thingy? Looks like it used to have a power cord to plug into the outlet.

Also my dad bought a bunch of fence posts this summer when lumber prices were through the roof because he wants to fence off the field he broke out in the pasture. I'm betting these stay in this building for at least 2-3 years if not longer. No way he puts them all in himself.

I'm guessing these extra large ones are corner posts?

Gave the old 4020 some exercise today cleaning up terraces.  Tater helped #2 fix the powershift after we were done.

What is that giant hybrid corn cob/fire hydrant looking thing that is in the field even with the bobcat?

That's actually an ancient buddhist villa. People were smaller back then.

Those are the risers where the water drains to the underground pipe that takes it to the creek.  The terraces run north to south on ground sloping to the east.  The water drains to 4 runs of pipe running east downhill to take excess water off the field.

Some of K-States finest agronomy majors and ag engineers do the math for most farmers via FSA or SCS office to build terrace and drain tile systems to preserve top soil from run off.

We replaced this system a decade ago.  My dad tiled this farm in the 80s.

Even the best design terrace encounters rain events it wasn't built to handle so a little up keep filling ruts or cleaning sediment away from the risers is just good practice.

Weird to me that there are places in KS where it consistently rains enough to wipe out terraces. Always thought of this as an Iowa / Illinois problem. Was not a problem North Centeral KS.
