Blood stop chowder! Kal-k-dex! A random white container filled with something that expired in 1995!

What more could a cow man need?

Here is the chute the cows would climb before they get loaded up to die.

we have one of those that's a double decker. can go straight to the second floor of trailers. we would always be unloading cows in the middle of the night because we'd buy them from like Alabama and the truck would drive them straight up obviously. I always remember getting woke up in the middle of the night for cows to arrive. we use a cow buyer guy that just goes around the country and buys cows for us. seems kind of ridiculous but what the hell do I know about picking cows out and how much they should cost.

this is the thing my dad used every year except the stupid rubber band year. he could do it in like 10 seconds. you clamp down with this deal and it knifes right in there and then you yank it and it rips the ball sack (scrotum) open and then my dad would reach up there and yank each one down really hard because apparently you can't leave a lot of the nad string (nard string) up there or something bad happens. again, extremely brutal to watch and I can't believe I've seen that done like 10k times.

lmbo at these stevedave posts today. But removing as much of the nad string (nard string) as possible is no joke. It makes a vas deferens.

When you're lancing open the bull's scrotum and then forcibly untethering the vas deferens from the whirly-doop thingy so as to remove the balls, how does the male cow react? Do they just let you do it to them, because you're a famous cow farmer?

surprisingly they don't really gaf. I mean, sometimes they get kinda agitated but not as much as you would think. cows seem to be pretty immune to pain other than getting branded which they do not like.

actually I'm pretty anti branding cattle despite my heritage. It is very mean. I don't know what a better solution is though.

I didn't find any scrotum snippers but I did crack open an old fridge full of cow medicine.

you see that white box with giant bars in it? that's cow vitamins. do you know how they take their vitamins? you put one of those banana sized things into the end of this rod deal and shove it all the way down their throats into their stomachs and push the end of the deal and it deposits it directly into their stomachs.

I mean, they don't really have a choice but it doesn't seem to bother them much. they are in the chute which is this giant hydraulic powered squeezer deal so they can move their head around a bit but they are basically not going anywhere. we have ours built inside of our "vet shed" so its all done indoors and the pens lead into the building and they are in single file up to this thing where the squeeze is put on. my main job was just keeping the line of cattle moving up towards the squeezer because you really can't eff that up.

I mean, I did eff it up a lot but it's the hardest to do. I'd sometimes get one going in there backwards. how? I have no idea but they'd just go in backwards and then you're kinda stuck after they get past a certain point because there are these things that come down after they go through them that keep them from backing out of the single file thing. then everyone would have to stop and pull up the stopper deal and get all the cows back out into the gathering pen and then start putting them back in. man I sucked at cow farming guys. big time.

Do the more socialist-minded cows ever start revolutions? If not, why not? Just too dumb and docile?

I actually saw that rod deal on a shelf next to the fridge and wondered WTF it was for.  I've learned so much in this thread.

I always hated dehorning. Dad had these giant dehorners and blood would spray out of the stump of the horn. I hate the sight of flowing blood and would go into a cold sweat and have to go sit down so I didn't faint. Mercifully, dad switch to horn-less cows so I didn't have to witness that horror show anymore.

Ben ji, your farm looks awesome.

this talk of ripping the balls out of baby cows is taking some of the appeal out of hobby farming.

these were mostly not baby ones. though we do that as well, but mostly onsite. in a chute where you can flip the little guys on their side and make it easy peasy. I think it's called a "calf table". it's like a built in trailer thing we pull out there to portable corrals.

That pretty much covers getting bulls "minds off ass and on grass" as my dad used to say.  My fondest memory of him castrating was he used a scalpel and would put it between his teeth why exposing the vasd then used a stainless steel stapler before clamping them off in a bucket.
He wore key overalls... covered in blood splatter.

i'm almost positive my grandfathers let their cows keep their balls.  at least i never saw or heard any evidence to the contrary.
