I grew up on a ranch with serval hundred head of cattle, and I never seen or heard of a calf crawing in a hole like that.  Like Steve says, it's fake.  :th_twocents:
Hot time in Kat town tonight.

Tom,

I have very a very low farmer IQ so please tell me what that large elevated cylindrical tank in the middle of the picture holds.

My best guesses are

1. Gasoline/Diesel fuel

2. Propane

3. Water

Also tell me more about the structure to elevate it. Wood? Stone? Was it built so gravity could propel the liquid inside out?

That was a liquid fertilizer tank.  You could get a truck load of fertilizer delivered then gravity flow it into a 200-300 gal sprayer to put on the brome grass.  The tank is on stone/concrete piers.

sd dad bought a giant spray rig which has hilariously come in handy during the recent flooding in sw ks as it’s like 6 feet off the ground and can get to isolated sheds and stuff to rescue valuables and pets for local farmer buds.

I worked for the K-State Dept of Agronomy one summer. Basically just being a field hand for crop research by grad students. I was on the soybean crew, but I remember the wheat crew guys talking about cheat grass.

cheat sounds an awful lot like wheat, and don't let anyone tell you differently

Cheat does look very similar to wheat, too. Those wheat crew guys would be like, "See all of that cheat we have to remove from that wheat field?" And I'd be like, "uhh..."

Yeah I just googled "cheat grass" (did you mean: cheatgrass) and to a non farming rube like me it does have a resemblance to wheat.

Made the rounds today to check pasture.  Fixed a little fence, confirmed last fall aerial spray killed the lespedeza, dug a few thistles.   Love the flint hills this time of year.

That pond has been historically disappointing from a fishing perspective.  A few bass and a catfish or two.  The best fishing pond in the pasture has damage to the overflow tube so its lower than expected given all the rain this spring.  Add that to the ToDo list sometime this summer.

Tom,
Neat pic, thanks for posting that.  I like seeing old pics like that.  Who is the man standing next to the tractor.  Is that TomDad or Grandpa?
