Didn't his daughter marry one of his players and then had his grand kids or something?

In the biblical sense of the word marry, yes she did marry at least a couple of them

In 1988 McCartney's daughter, Kristy, told McCartney that she was pregnant by the team's star quarterback, Sal Aunese.[3] When Aunese died of stomach cancer in 1989, the unwed Kristy showed up at the funeral with her five-month-old son. People began to gossip about who had fathered the dark-skinned baby (Aunese was Samoan). Although McCartney knew that Aunese was the father, he allowed several of his non-white players to take unnecessary paternity tests before Aunese was identified as the father.

Trashy parents raise trashy kids.

I guess PK was his way of trying to get his crap together and be a better parent/husband.  :dunno:

There was a Grantland article a week or so a go about that CU coach weirdo and promise keepers.  His daughter had illegitimate children with 2 players.  One is playing for the Buffs.  He hates gays.  Promise keepers had like a billion members at some point.  Retired pretty young.  Super weirdo

So, its just a second chance club for bigoted hypocrites?   I mean, if CU guy wrote the mission statement, that would be in there, right?  Also, to win football games, I bet.

I try to disconnect McCartney from some of the good I'm sure PK does for dudes. I'm just pointing out that he in particular is kinda a piece of trash.

That was a different time in the late 80s. Can you imagine a climate where the conference's leading programs were led by Tom Osborne, Barry Switzer and McCartney?  A lot of moral grey area, and some hypocritical behavior for sure. I like McCartney personally. There are a lot of odd PK peeps, but I wouldn't run down an organization that generally tries to ask anyone to be responsible for themselves.

I'm all for anything that people believe that improves themselves.  Don't know why they need to hate gays to accomplish that though.  Seems counter productive to the improving yourself thing

Is the anti-gay stuff a PK thing or a McCartney thing?

IIRC, there was a lot of change at PK in the 2000s. BM wasn't around anymore. Not sure who runs it now.

I think the part where he tried to use those organizations as a lobby to limit rights for gays is indefensible.

My uncle did PK. It's hard to say if he's a total piece of crap or if my aunt is a big enough POS for both of them, but either way, it didn't work for their family.

Confirmed hateful weirdos, though, at least from my small sample size.

Absolutely

The super sad part is that it is really common to have these "well intentioned" religious groups end up trying to limit the rights of others.  I mean, it's really remarkable how frequently it occurs.

So, as long as groups like PR keep associating with (and being led by) massive bigots and such, I'll just work under the assumption that they are not a positive force.  I suspect that I will be right way more than I am wrong.

PK is very dorky, and was big in the mega-church boom in the 90s. However, I'm not sure what the problem with a men's organization that focuses on encouraging men to be good husbands/fathers would be. Even if you believe something different than them about religion, that core message is one to be admired IMO.

When they're not attending meetings in football stadiums they like to chaperone high school proms and throw out girls for dressing too sexy.

My dad went to a couple of these things in Denver in the 90s. It creeped him out which says a lot because he is like Mr. Lions Club and loves all things Christian mainline.
