Does Snyder Retiring make it Harder for oscar Weber?
« on: December 23, 2014, 01:41:24 PM »
With Snyder's upcoming retirement, how long will oscar Weber be able to survive with a team that is not playing good basketball?  K-State fans have proven that they are willing to "look the other way" on basketball when football is winning.  Similarly, when football has been down, all eyes turned to basketball.

Football is different than basketball, and our fans know it.  They know that if football goes south, it takes a LOT to fix it.  Basketball can be fixed quickly, as all our fans know.

I think Weber will be out after next year.

I think the new football coach will struggle next year, because Bill is leaving the cupboard bare (Offensive skill positions are a disaster, for example).  When the new football coach struggles, and Weber continues to struggle, the fans will question the decision making of John Currie, and further mistrust his hires.  Currie's first move (assuming he doesn't bolt for a new job, and I happen to think that he will choose this option for himself) could be to eliminate Weber.  He could immediately buy himself more time on basketball....and as a result, effectively buy his new football coach more time as well.

It's sad how little I care about oscar's fate and the next hire.

I never want to go to a k-state basketball game again or watch a college game ever again in any sport

Can we fire up the Weber replacement threads so I can get a whole new series of hearty guffaws as the perpetually butthurt Frankites roll out their list of mid major mediocrity they want to see coach at K-State??

I mean, who else would Currie go for? Seems like a safe option with a decent upside.

Like, Auburn doesn't give a crap about basketball and they are paying oscar Pearl 2.2M w/ a 100K annual increase.  We're paying oscar 1.85M w/ 100K increase every year (so if he stays until 20 freaking 19, he will get 2.25M a year).

let that sink in as we contemplate who our next coach will be.

Well, on the one hand this could mean that there is no way we get rid of him, because he's to "good of a deal."  Or, (fingers crossed) we don't risk/lose too much by cutting him loose early.

I don't really buy into the "value" of the whole "That school pays really well" reputation stuff.  All it takes to let everyone know how serious you are is for the search firm or whomever to float the numbers you are willing to pay.

I mean, if we offered to pay oscar Pearl $750K more than Auburn, I'd like to think that we could get him.  But maybe (probably) I am naive.

I don't believe oscar is a good deal.  However i do believe he is too expensive to cut right now (and considering that currie loves giving oscar contract extensions he will continue to be).  i'm not speaking to the perception that a school will pay well, i'm speaking to the reality of ksu not paying well (yet still "caring").  We'd have to basically pay Pearl 3.0M to come (assuming the fantasy that currie would ever want pearl in the first place was a reality).  I don't see us doing that.

Well, my hope is that Currie will feel that he MUST go get an expensive coach, once Football dies (next year).

yeah. it's just that bill is making 2.9M or something like that and that ranks 7th in the big 12.  and he's like Jesus Christ incarnate.

True story (one that I have told a million times)....

In 2004 when we lost at KU in football, Catzacker and I were there, and the second the game finished he turned to me and said "Welp, Jim Wooldridge just got fired."

He was mostly correct.  Tim Weiser TRIED to fire Wooly that season, but Weefs stepped in and overrode Weiser and gave Wooly "one more year."  Wooly was fired the following season.

Which part of Weber are you referencing?  Above the waist - heart & brain or below the waist?

“I don’t have the answer to a specific time,” said Snyder, under contract through 2017. “But … if my health remains good, they don’t fire me, and if I am doing what is in the best interest of the young people in our program, and they are responding to it, then all those things together probably keep me here for a little while.”
