Regarding real estate:
1. Realtors
2. Radon
3. Remodeling with a "big name" remodeling company

seriously re. radon? I'm doing like a 3 month test right now. if it's bad do I just live with it?

The EPA sets the acceptable radon level way lower than it really needs to be. Google it.

realtors are not scam artists, unbelievable dub

Yes the realtor cabal is a scam. They hold a virtual monopoly due to state licensing restrictions (which they lobby heavily for) and realtor.com. The service they typically provide is not worth anywhere close to a 5-6% commission, particularly on more expensive homes. The whole idea of a percentage based commission instead of flat fee is absurd, considering it takes no additional effort to sell a $100k house as a $300k house, yet the owner of the $300k house pays triple the commission

In larger markets, free and reduced fee listing services like Redfin appear to finally be making a market. Hopefully this will spread to smaller markets in the next decade. Realtors are terrified of this because the MLS is the biggest reason they stay in business.

It's not that hard to sell a house. But even if you want to do it yourself, you're probably going to get screwed by the realtor cabal. Yes, realtors absolutely steer their clients away from fsbo's because fsbo's don't want to pay a 3% commission. If people want to pay for a raaltor's services fine, but they shouldn't be forced to lest they be blackballed from the market. It's a cabal.

Have you guys ever heard of Reiki? It's a scam, right?

I know a guy who does this...he's also a Jedi.  :dunno:

My friend's wife does this. It is totally insane. I think a few people actually pay her to do it, too. I urge anyone unfamiliar to google it and watch a video of a session.

The fact that anyone in the year 2015 thinks this might be productive blows my mind.
i went and had drinks with a girl who just moved back home from dc. She had a bad break up like a year earlier, and swore some woman she knew(possibly the same woman) cured her depression with reiki.  Then she got pretty pak'd and seemed sad again.  Whatever works lady.

She told you that her friend cured her depression by plucking bad vibes out of her aura with her hands? You didn't stand up and leave? I'm going to assume that this woman was unstoppably pretty and unstoppably funny/interesting.

I am getting these mailers saying that I can get $1000 worth of life insurance for free through my credit union. Is it a scam? I mean, obviously they are trying to sell me some more insurance above the $1000 coverage, but if I don't sign up am I really passing by free life insurance?

$1000 of life insurance is probably almost free.  your name and info is worth more.

"Do Not Tumble Dry" clothing.  You're telling me we can put a man on the moon but we can't make a shirt out of something that can get hot without being destroyed?  Nice try, not buying it.

Well it was actually my wife's shirt and I ruined it and now she says she's going to go get the same one and that got me thinking about how Big Shirt probably does this on purpose so you have to keep replacing your clothes.  Scammed.

Oh man what if shirts could be cried.  Just pop in Rudy every time I need some new clothes and I would have a whole new closet full.

Adding to my list of real estate related scams, "early mortgage payoff programs" offered by banks. Charging dumbshits hundreds of dollars to effectively make 13 payments instead of 12.
