Twitter, Republicans, Super PACs are all above the law
« on: November 17, 2014, 09:38:34 AM »
http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/17/politics/twitter-republicans-outside-groups/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

So, Karl Rove's PAC and a couple others used anonymous twitter accts to post internal polling data in code for the 'pub candidates to use for focusing campaign money as the election was coming close.  The coordination of the two is illegal.

I bet absolutely nothing is done other than some laughs and high fives.

Pretty bad, the bigger concern is the untracked donation money from foreign sources made via the Internet.

When you say "illegal" - are you talking about doing stuff that's actually wrong, like the Clintons/Obama accepting millions in donations from foreigners, or are you just talking violating our byzantine restrictions against American citizens engaging in freedom of speech?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

I am talking about the substance of the original post that is a provable violation.

I am up for any politician and any group associated with breaking such laws being prosecuted.

Right, I'm just wondering if you can explain the policy reason for campaign finance laws the prevent campaigns from coordinating with American citizens who want to spend their money on politics?

Deflect, deflect, deflect.....

I'm not deflecting anything. Deflecting would be saying "yeah, well the other side does it, too (and I'm sure they do, but that's not my point)." Feel free to bitch about this - I'll go ahead and concede that they broke the law because I could care less. I believe in the First Amendment right to freedom of speech, so I'm not going to get my panties in a wad when someone violates laws that trample on the Constitution. Do you realize that many of our Founding Fathers wrote some of their most influential work anonymously?

Freedom of Speech marginal election wrong doing > Massive Campaign Contribution illegalties

Can't argue with that logic.

This is effectively election rigging, but hey, it's ok because the republicans did it!

So publicly tweeting out polling data is illegal?

I think the part where they encoded the data so that it wasn't really made available to the public is illegal, but I'm not really sure.

Maybe it isn't really encoded to someone familiar with polling data?  :dunno:

DNR article but get the gist. Does this setup a battle Royale between Rove and the new AG, because that could be

Pretty ingenious cheat, although I don't understand who was damaged. What kind of fine or cmp are we talking about?

I'm genuinely surprised at how quickly the pubs caught up and passed the dems with respect to twitter. Obama was tweeting millions in 08 and most pubs were still texting in t9 word.
