BBRCC Dip Debate
« on: September 30, 2014, 11:02:11 AM »
So long saloon cream cheese raspberry chipotle bean dip! A down-home Kansas classic.

no ge'ing, do you have a recipe?  I made one myself, but I'd be willing to see others work.

I've never made it, but I've had it and thought it was just ok.  If I were to make it I'd take the seasoned black beans, kind of mash them a little bit; not so it was a paste, but not so they were just individual beans. I'd then take cream cheese and get it to room temp, mix in some seasoning; maybe cumin and some chili chowder (or other maybe, cayenne) then stir in some raspberry chipotle sauce (my fave is broncin bobs), pour the cream cheese mixture on top, stick in the oven/broiler to heat everything, pour some of the bobs on top just before serving. Maybe top with some green onions.

I think seasoning the cream cheese would be a big improvement to the So Long/Lucha version.

good grief the original is perfect

No, I've been going to So Long since it opened.  I had BBRD before twitter, and only once. Not that good. Sorry DScott..

I'm so confused as to why any of this makes you think you know more about this dip than me.

because unflavored cream cheese tastes about as good as ball sweat.

I guess the taste of plain cream cheese is irrelevant to the timeline, however, I guess my point is: I had it before it was a viral twitter hit and of all the years SoLong has been in operation and the many trips I've made to that establishment, I've had it once and didn't go back for it again.

I had no idea this dip was a twitter viral sensation, as I also ate it (many times) before twitter existed.

Most people enjoy plain cream cheese, yet the raspberry chipotle would have some sort of pepper/cumin

I honestly have never heard of this dip until I had some at So Long Saloon.

People use way too much cumin in stuff these days I think.

It probably isn't, however I follow DScott, and it seems to pop up on my feed nearly daily.  Knowing that gE'ers are (generally) on the up and up regarding him-mostly to mock him, I was under the impression that trying to make that point would be understood.

To each their own. Whatev. I love black beans and I love raspberries, however I don't get super hung up on (get my dick out for) this dip. Eat it however you please. #1cat

Yes, I don't order it every time I go either. I really like making it when I watch KSU games because:

A) It's purple (sorta)
B) Evokes Manhattan nostalgia
C) It's an easy to make and tasty and unique party snack to share with my California friends

There's just no reason to change it

cumin would be a horrible addition to the cream cheese in this application

I bet it would equally as good if you skipped the raspberry stuff and just used Jalapeno jelly (or any hot pepper jelly really).

I bet you could even skip the black beans and raspberry sauce completely, reduce the amount cream cheese by a large amount, and increase the pepper jack.  Could make a nice BBRCC Dip for those who don't like beans.
