Should this be combined with cigars thread?  I have a feeling we will get there.

Let the games begin!

We live in a wondrous new world, which may kill us, but will certainly entertain us!

BYU? Can't think they'll just sit idly with this.
Notre Dame?

ND is going to be included in the P5 fwiw

It might force Notre Dame to join a conference as a full member.

Guesses on first change?

All P-5 schools must schedule all non-cons with other P-5 schools.
Squawks would make a killing with this.  Can you imagine all the P5 schools that would be lining up on their doorstep looking to pay them  to come to their house with no return game?

This may keep people quiet for a bit.  No way the power conferences accept all those restrictions for very long, and no way the little guys will suck it up and do what they are told.   I bet the big 5 still bolt next year.

So who is supposed to spend the time over every single rule change to analyze it?

How can I profit from this? I think we need to pull a Jerry Maguire and start signing kids to our goEMAW agency. We offer free insurance benefits because we are all about family.

Start a consortium for P-5 football conferences and start branding ourselves as the superior alternative to the NCAA organization.  Soon they will be known as the gE-5 football conferences.  :gocho:

Can you imagine how many god damn diamonds in the rough we are going to mine when the scholarship limit for football goes back to being well north of 100?

Think of all the near top level guys that used to want to be stars at places like Northern Illinois that will now want to play at a P-5 school such as K-State

This is a big part of this vote..

Q: So what exactly will the Power 5 be able to vote on for themselves?

The NCAA’s proposal outlines 10 areas in which the Power 5 can use their resources to “enhance the well-being of student-athletes.” They are: financial aid, health and wellness, meals and nutrition, expenses and benefits, career pursuits, insurance and career transitions, time demands, academic support, recruiting and personnel.

From oaf's linked article:

Nor will the Power 5 be able to enact their own scholarship limits (i.e., going from 85 to 95 in football)

Does this mean they will be able to decide if they can start paying players?

yes, i believe this brings stipends into play. it does not affect transfer rules, postseason tournaments and rules of the game (imagine that!), i don't think.

poor cincy and uconn, and rutgers is really goddamn lucky. louisville, too.

I'm surprised what I'm about to say isn't being talked about much.

A Tulsa paper and radio guy went to the AAC media day and their commish was telling everyone they will do everything they can to keep up.  The AAC won't have voting power, but autonomy is set up so that once something is passed every other conference has the choice to enact any part of the new rules they want.  They can enact parts/all of whatever new rules they want for their entire conference or allow schools to pick what additional benefits they want to offer on their own.  It will still suck for them from a budget stand point because it will cost them a lot while not having near the revenue stream of the power 5.

This is where it could move to the cigars thread, but I see infighting in both the MW and AAC with what to allow in their conferences.  I could schools like UConn, Cincy, Boise St., and Nevada pushing to allow more in their conferences than the likes of Tulsa, Utah St, ECU, and SJSU.  I wouldn't be surprised of the old Big East play of going national happens again where those conferences mutually agree to split and re-org as two separate conferences while playing minimal regional conference games and having scheduling agreements to pay 2-3 regional cross-conference games per year.
I got a guy on the other line about some white walls
