Android sees substantial app growth month over month
« on: April 08, 2010, 10:23:43 AM »
further proof that the iphone OS/app store will need to make some major changes soon because open source/android is well on its way to surpassing iphone OS.  as android handsets continue to evolve and more and more people are exposed to the flexibility they can provide, they will naturally gravitate to them instead of living within Jobs' rules.  i can't see apple ever going open source but they're going to have to do something, i would think.

i would have provided a link to the other user created app OS's growth charts out there that were referenced in the "apple" thread but we all know they don't really exist.

anyways, great news for everyone who uses a smartphone, competition is a good thing.

Here's the thing - I was all excited about "apps" when I got an iPhone.  I was like omg, thousands of apps, this is going to be awesome!

I then quickly realized that 99.9999% of them are rough ridin' worthless.
Where did you get that overnight bag?

you're over exagerating that number but the point you're attempting to make is valid- the majority of them probably are worthless.  but that doesn't mean they all are, there are a lot of really good ones.  the reality is that they're worth different amounts to different people and personally, if i use my free bank of america app when i'm in chicago to find the closest bank of america just one time without having to ask someone, then i'm glad i put it on my phone.

I bet the # is still around that percentage of worthless apps.  Wouldn't consider a legitimate app like BoA worthless, but an app telling you how to say poop in 27 different languages (and charging 1.99) is.

THen I suppose you would just walk to the side of the road, squat down and take care of you're business.  That's how they do it in India anyway.  Now that'll be $1.99.  TIA.

I used to be all about trying to get a super snazzy phone, but then I realized that I don't want to pay for internet since I'm pretty much always near a computer. Turns out I pretty much just talk and text.  :dunno: The Android does have my interest though, but not sure I need it considering my internet philosophy.
I once blew clove smoke in a guy's face that cut in front of me in the line to KJ's.

Got the Droid as my work phone and dig it. Alot of the apps are crap (as would be expected). There are quite a few IPhone apps that still need to be converted over to android.
