Big D's Burger Shack (manhattan burger discussion)
« on: April 07, 2010, 05:00:46 PM »
I liked it.  A-LOT.

Peggy Po's:
  • tons of fries
  • good fries
  • pretty good burgers
  • texas toast
  • good topping seletion
  • guy in corner eating "cowboy"-->3 pattys on t-toast

Nancy Neg's:
  • outside seating is uncomfortable as crap
  • no fountain drinks

Overall Manhattan Burger rank has been thus re-shuffled:

1) So Long burger on t-toast: egg, bacon, cheese (SOMETIMES), fresh cut (not pickled), penos kinda gross
2) Big D's:  t-toast, penos, everything, mustard for the fries
3) My Chef BELT Burger: Bacon, lettuce, egg, tomato, +mont jack on t-toast(no fries)
4) Harry's/Little Apple: Not in love with the bread but they both stay surprisingly crisp on the bread
5) Vista/Sonic mostly the same, Vista Cyclone waaaay better than crappy sonic drinks, fries both suck

Where's this place at?
I believe in the strip mall on Tuttle Blvd right before Kimball intersection.
I once blew clove smoke in a guy's face that cut in front of me in the line to KJ's.

I've probably had a bagillion belly bomb's (roommate of Limestone and I was a waiter there).  A fine burger.  However, I do NOT believe that it deserves the same accolades as the rest of that wonderful restaurant's entres.

That's great decision making on your part....I used to get a "special deal" on burgers, however.

For a chain, I do like Red Robin.  Food is good, service sucks, too many damned kids and all that but good eats.
Where did you get that overnight bag?

Vista burgers blow. They taste like elementary school cafeteria food.I think the best drive-thru burger in town is probably Freddy's, unfortunately. Why the eff doesn't Manhattan have a Spangles yet?

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Not a fan of Vista burgers, but a fan of everything else they have.

Spangles, same way - their burgers are garbage.

Disagree, I love Freddy's shoestring fries. Love the celery salt they sprinkle on them. The Chicago dog they have is pretty good too.

I haven't had anything at Vista that I was satisfied with. The fries are bad. The corndogs at Sonic are better. Mozzarella sticks at Arbys are better. I've just never seen a reason for why people seem to like it so much.

As far as the burgers at Spangles... there's nothing special about the beef they use, but they offer enough toppings/options to make up for it IMO. If I could pick any fast food burger to have in Manhattan I'd go with either Five Guys or Hardees. It just doesn't make sense to me why a Spangles hasn't opened up here when there are four in Salina, several in Topeka, one in Lawrence and several in Wichita.

:dunno:

On a related note; Cozy Inn (Salina famous place) to open in Aggieville this summer.

Hmm...I saw the salina place featured on the food network a couple weeks ago. Guess they make damn good sliders, but only fix them one way.

Being from Salina, most people either love Cozy burgers or hate them.  I used to like them but not any more.  Also, when you go there you come out smelling terrible (not good for steve dave types)

They opened like a year before White Castle
