Unless he was completely crap faced it's going to be difficult to prove how impaired he was because he left the scene and was found later. Also his attorneys can point out the fact that this tractor was on the road at night, obviously difficult to see. Of all of the high profile vehicular manslaughter cases that involve alcohol that I know of, I can't recall the offender getting long sentences. I'm sure there are cases of a chronic drunk driver killing a family of 5 that got like 10 years or something.

I'd watch a documentary on the #producing that goes on, with the saga of how this lady was ordered to pick the whaboom'r as an example.
