Are you taking shots then blacking out or are you just drinking like 20 beers or something?

Mostly just a crap ton of beer. Sometimes there will be shots intermixed.

I think most people do not want to hang out with someone who blacks out everytime they drink.

If they liked the person, they would have them slow down before they got blackout drunk. I think the goEMAW community cares more about this guy than his friends.

There is definitely a sub-sect of my friends that are enablers, and don't want to try and curb anyone else's behavior lest someone try and curb theirs. I should have a plan to limit my consumption when I'm around them. Not really sure how I haven't realized this before, but it's very clear at this point.

You should have your behavior curbed. You're going to get hurt or dead if you can't control yourself in a social setting. You're like Mr. Bread, only he won't eat peas and you won't stop drinking until you piss yourself.

So these blackouts, are they like the one I had or is it just forgetting bits and pieces of the night?

Usually it's just a brownout, and that didn't concern me too greatly. The last two were like the one that you described, which has me mildly worried.

Drinking a glass of water between each beer is an urban legend, never actually been done.

Aggieville is probably the hardest place in the world to curb your drinking in. For a whole slew of reasons, which I won't get into here because this isn't an aggieville thread.

Add a bunch of friends enabling you to that, and you've got a problematic equation there.

Fun fact: never peed myself whilst in blackout mode (or an other mode for that matter, I mean, like past the age of five).

If it's aggieville, it's easy.  Leave your card at home and only take a small amt of cash.  Works like a charm unless enablers also toss around free drinks.  If they do, leave all cash and card at home and learn when to say when.

So, it seems like the general consensus is that I should probably take a predetermined hiatus from drinking and when I resume I should bring a limited amount of cash to the bars, and bring an appropriate amount of booze to house settings when I know there will be drinking. You guys are great

I really think you shouldn't drink at all outside of your own home.

If you become a big-timey business guy one day, you can drink all you want and nobody can tell you crap. Then you'll be the cool business guy that likes to drink whiskey sours, not the sad blackout guy.

It sounds like you still some what consistently take shots. You are 29, shots of alcohol are for bachelor parties or annual bros getting together for the weekend. I do shots like one weekend a year. There might be a few more times to do shots, but it should be for something special, not just, "Oh hey, all of you guys that I hang out with on the reg, lets do some jaeger bombs!"

Labor Day weekend is certainly a special occasion where shots are likely warranted (not sure I will be doing any, YET).

Only drinking once every two weeks is no way to stay in drinking condition. You need more practice.

The plan is a standing one. It's just deciding if I am going or not.

at first my thought was "quit drinking" but the more I think about it...you're 29 and you can still consistently party like you are 22.  Sounds like you have a gift.  Did you ever see Rookie of the Year?  Maybe it's like that.  Although, I'm not sure what playing in the majors is equivalent to in this metaphor...
