Alcoholic vs problem drinker
« on: May 18, 2014, 10:26:51 PM »
I don't drink very often, probably once every two weeks. But recently (past couple years) I don't seem to have the ability to stop drinking once I start. I pretty much drink till I black out if there's not someone else trying to actively curb my intake. So, alcoholic or problem drinker?

Pretty fun till I black out, and then I'm not functioning on a high enough level to do anything incredibly stupid, just kind of an annoying idiot at that point.

Pretty likable till I black out, but I'm not an bad person once I black out, just a complete idiot. There haven't been any real negative consequences yet.

probably should stop drinking until you are at a point in your life where you know when to and can make yourself stop long before you blackout

Several people have told me I've blacked out from drinking.

Denied. If I had blacked out, I'd remember it.

If you're talking about social situations where you should just be having a few drinks, but instead you're finding yourself setting roosters records and feeling shame and pity when you wake up and encounter people the next day, that's bad.

If you're talking about designated times and places to get pak'd, but you're going to TEN!!! instead of ten, don't worry about it.

i'm the exact opposite.  i drink almost every day, but pretty much never get drunk.  basically only when there is free alcohol available for some reason.

i'm pretty sure i'm an alcoholic, btw.

Just a guess here, but do you drink really fast? I often find that I finish my drinks quicker than friends, and so I have to space them out differently.  I've recently started chewing a piece of gum between each drink, and I've found that it helps me keep a more reasonable pace.

This approach may be marketable.

Are your friends blacking out with you or are you usually way drunker than everyone else?
