Job Search Connections - thread
« on: April 21, 2014, 11:14:59 AM »
When I was deciding on a college to attend, one of the things they tried to sell about K-State was that there was a huge network of alumni just waiting to hire KSU grads.  I think this board needs a thread where we can all hook each other up with connections. The more of us that have killer jobs, the more money we can throw back at the WildWildCats.

You're never going to become a successful professional by asking a bbs for a job.

I don't want someone on the bbs to offer me a job, I want to know if there are alumni in the area I can ask for recommendations in the local market.

It would even seem plausible that if they knew someone in particular for hiring that some alumni would be willing to let someone in the middle of a job search use their name to talk with someone in the appropriate field.

In this job market it is all about who you know.  From what I understand, KState grads like to hire other KState grads.

Have something similar to this right now and it is spectacular.

I can help you find a job, most likely. I mostly deal with start up companies and do some investing, but our marketing department is hiring.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

FWIW, every school tries to sell "connections" for jobs. Truth is, you're going to have to bust down some doors yourself. Talk to friends and family and get creative.

Friends and family are literally no help in this current situation.  I'd be curious from people in the area what companies they have had  experience with that someone in this field would actually want to work with. Perusing job listings and checking out websites sometimes leaves a job seeker without the proper knowledge of which companies would actually be good fits.

here's what I, a potential employer, know about yardog:

-starts job search threads in the pit
-low to low medium message boarder
-claims graphic design ability yet has produced no good BBS media
-that post about the average salary in his field was very beems'ish

yardog, you're hired. now you're fired.

yardog did come up with some good designs in a tshirt thread recently.  However, I agree that he should be using his talents here more frequently.  It could be his thing (working for free).

In fairness I posted the Wizards thing with Bill added to it.  And I didn't start my job search here. I'm just exploring all my options.

Talk to Eugene up at D.C.  Tell him I sent you and he'll hook you up.  Might want to pretend to be a D (he's a flaming Democrat).
