My kids think it is awesome when I pick up their recorder and play a song. However, try to impress your 3rd grader with your extensive knowledge of a matrix (not movie related) and they will fall asleep.

I had to memorize them and their spellings in 7th grade. good use of roughly a full years worth of georgraphy class. meanwhile, I have no idea where most of the African, Asian or South American countries are on a map.
