While I was doing my weekly Sunday morning run, a motorist stopped to scold me and my dog for not wearing enough reflective clothes. I was like “thanks, have a great day.” I assume any motorist who is out in the early morning hours is intoxicated and doesn’t see me.

That's incredible. I ran on a trail yesterday for the first time in two years. So, it's sort of inspirational for me. Looking forward to the pics!

Trails are so much more enjoyable than pavement.  If you’re ever thinking about signing up for a trail race, check out Mad Moose Events.  They’re a small family run business that does an excellent job organizing races.  They have several of varying distances in Moab and Colorado throughout the year.  Can’t recommend them enough.

So much vert… Crested Butte was a cakewalk in comparison.  Contemplating retirement right now, but will probably probably sign up for something in a few weeks after memories of the pain and misery have faded.

Guess who crushed the Little Apple Marathon this morning?  And by crushed I mean finished, and by marathon I mean 5k.

I really don't have any good running stuff to share at the moment but after the finish line of the LA5k there was a table giving out water and bananas and PRIME energy drink and I totally mushed the person giving out Prime and chugged a water instead lmao

other than the occasional 1 mile jog or thanksgiving 5k type thing, i have never been a runner. this year it just started happening for me, and now i run about once a week. strava has me at 115 miles on the year, including my first (and 2nd) 10k, and like 20+ runs of 3 miles or more. it's bananas and i still don't particularly enjoy it (compared to cycling), but it is nice to get in a quick workout needing nothing but headphones and a pair of shoes. also my dog loves running so she is a big motivation for me and goes with me every time. go cats

I'm starting back up this week.  The goal is to do a Backyard Ultra next year.  I usually start in March and do a Marathon or half in May so it will be nice to not rush through a training build up

Inspired by mocat’s cycling post… put your 2023 running totals in here.

Did you meet your goals?
What do you have planned for 2024?

I’ll start.

201 runs
1192 miles
134,301 ft

Lowest total miles since 2018 but not surprising without a race to train for.  I’ve got my eye on a couple options for 2024 to get things turned around.  Leaning towards the 30k range, so that I don’t hate myself mid-race.

I was inspired during the summer months. Got disengaged when the pine forest was burning. Never got moving again other than my daily walks.

I would like to run 2 - 3 miles 2-3x per week. Maybe enter a 5K or 10K with one of my kids who is a runner.

If you are into running, you may enjoy Coach Bennett's podcast. I have found it to be fun and packed with good information:

They did one in the Plaza in August last year.  The heat could be rough but the convenience is high
