I got mine last Thursday, but I feel like i'm getting too much back... free loan to the IRS and all, plus I don't like getting money back from the state because that's just one more form to track next year.  Should I add another deduction to my W-4s?

We used to always get a lot back; so I changed my elections on the W-4 so we are pretty close to even now...so I'm in no hurry to get them done. I downloaded the software this weekend and gathered up the documents we have received; so I feel like I made progress.

I owed like $1,500 this year

I owed Kansas some money too.  It is the goddam supreme court legislating again, is what it is.

Also, my rental property makes too much money.  How can I stop this without actually taking money out of my 6 girl's mouths?

You're probably boned because you ever declared rental income, but its probably one of, if not the easiest source of income to simply conceal from the IRS.  You could also just raise rent so that 70% of the increase covers your existing taxes.

ShellShock - Standard deduction

Post in this thread and steve dave will tell you if you itemize or not.

Wrong. Itemized deduction due to investments, farm items, house.

i have meant to get my taxes done every day for the last 45 days, and keep putting it off to the next day. it's horrible. last year i went right up to the deadline.

i am going to get them done today, however.

If you have any type of farm and aren't written off as a loss every single year, you're doing something wrong.

for the wife.  real estate agent.  has a brick and mortar corporate office, but only goes there to scan closing docs.  99.9% of work is done at home.

gonna punt this one to sd.  She should just ask her co-workers.  I am sure there are cagey old gals who have been deducting everything from their yellow blazers to their cadillacs for decades.
