Carcosa wasn't as impressive up close; seemed really backwoodsy, rednecky.

I think Carcosa was probably the supernatural stuff accessed via the old building, not the old building itself.

Come to think of it, there was a distinct lack of black stars and twin moons...

I was expecting some sort of crazy twist that would have made me make flowers all over myself.

I'm not disappointed in the series but I was expecting something different in the end.

the creator said in an interview probably 2 weeks ago that there wouldn't be a twist ending.   :dunno:

I didn't see that.

The only part I didn't like was the funnel cloud thing.  What was that about?

Not having a twist ending is the new twist ending. Everyone expects a twist ending nowadays.

Yes, I took carcosa as a state of mind more than an actual location.

Rust has hallucinations, that was established pretty early in the series

i liked it. pretty straight forward ending, which may be disappointing to those that were expecting a huge "gotcha!" ending. all in all though, an incredibly written and acted series that was a joy to experience.

Meh. McConny killed it with that last monologue. But let's revisit this:

Whatever your theory is, it has to account for them going out of their way to show that Woody's kid used to play with dolls in group sex situations, and was later busted having a three way with two dudes.

So there was no point to any of this? Just a red herring or what? Maybe just commentary on how the stuff Marty sees every day in his line of work still affects the people in his house, maybe because of him talking about it at home? Dunno.  Still weird.

was definitely expecting marty's daughter to be tied in somehow in the last episode.

Also, was it implied that Rust's visions are acid flashbacks or did I make that up?

never really went into depth on his visions, but he also could "taste" smells so he had some sensory thing.

his seemingly spiritual finding at the end could be considered a small plot twist.

His delivery was amazing, but it was too cliche for me to take his transformation seriously. Although if there is a twist, it's an HBO show touching on an atheist becoming a theist.

so I watch on Sunday's then I download the on demand episodes when they are ready because the end of the on demand episodes include a director's commentary where they talk about the episode and they never discussed the stuff with his daughter's sexuality

after hearing his Oscar's speech I'm convinced that MM insisted that something like this be included for Cohle.

i guess it's kind of like stevesie says, the daughter's sexual issues were just some kind of commentary on how marty was seeing those demons in every part of his life, or something.

Unless he was involved with the creation of this show, I doubt he has much say in the character's development. That's a pretty big jump to take and I doubt the writers of the show would be okay with their creation being changed to that magnitude. And it just seemed like a natural conclusion for the show. Would have been pretty lame if they show him sitting in the hospital staring off and thinking only to have him smoke a cigarette with Marty and then have Marty sneak him out.
