If Duke wins Coach K will effectively establish himself as the best college basketball coach of this generation, that is if he's not already. But a 4th title (2nd to only Wooden) would seal the deal.
It's also important to note that he's done it with a few different styles.
In the late 90's/early 00's, Duke was loaded with elite talent like Brand, Maggette, Battier, Williams, Dunleavy, Boozer, etc. They were disgustingly good. They should have won the title in '99, but they were just sick in their domination during this time period. It's kind of like it was back in the early 90's with Laettner, Hill, Hurley, etc. There was a lot of NBA talent on that court.
However, after K got burned after all of that talent left earlier this decade, he changed his style to less athletic shooters that would stick around for four years. Where he had teams with dominant inside players, he instead created a team and offense based around perimeter shooting. And while they still weren't as dominant, they were still damn good.
Tonight just validates the fact that K can win no matter what type of style he wants to play. He's now won four national titles in three different decades (91, 92, 01, 10) just speaks to his longevity and talent.
He's also got a gold medal as well.
