track removal is expensive stuff.  i always assumed ku fans were kidding about taking out the track.  i don't think they realize what they've gotten themselves into.

yeah i mean texas state did it which if KU wants to elevate their football program's status to their level then by all means it'll be good for everyone but if they can't afford it then maybe gE should set up a collection fund ya know?

They should just copy what Texas State is doing, would be a rough ridin' home run for them.

Here is an example of what I was talking about RD

They should tear everything up, shove the field up against the north(?) bleachers and redo the south/hill

That press box is the worst in America.  It's gotta go.

I feel so very badly for any D-Day vets that must face that concrete monolith.   I hope no broadcaster sticks a mic boom out an open window.

I mean really, a cruise ship or a replica of one of Hitler's death fortresses?

This was K-State's pressbox up until 2013:

Also notice how the Harley track separates the stands from the field by a good 12-15 feet.

yeah. that side they have with the current pressbox is serviceable. you absolutely keep that and all the stands down to the goal line on that side, i think. the rest through? i'd demo and then move the west side closer to the east and tighten up the bowl. the whole lowering the field thing sounds stupid though or maybe i just don't get it.

Look at K-State, a good 7 or 8 yards of soft AstroTurf Gameday Grass 360 (that's an old pic Beems) on the sidelines, and now the endzones have turf all the way to the wall.   ku fans are pretty dangerous people, wanting to put their own sight lines in better position at the detriment of player safety.   They probably really love the set up at Okie State which is like instant sideline death from the 20's on in.   Sad

Then there's ku, hello long jump runway!!   Hello sand pit!!

It only took until 2013 for the in-state "football school" to build a pressbox bigger than KU's:

I'm sure it's convenient for the emergency vehicle to have its own paved highway, but it looks terrible to the objective viewer.  Maybe they could dig a deeper hole and fill it in with more seats?

ku was 5 years behind K-State on building suites, and now approaching 20 years behind on Club Level seating.   K-State has twice as many suites, 3x's as many club levels and twice as many stadium clubs.

Also notice how the Harley track separates the stands from the field by a good 12-15 feet.

Couple things here:
1. Harleys are awesome.
2. Harleys evidently have a tighter turning radius than collegiate sprinters, because our endzones don't require a massive radius putting the end zone seats about 1/4 mile away from the field just to accommodate a track.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

It really concerns about how obsessed ku fans are in regards to the distance of our stands to the field on our sidelines.    They constantly reference how they want there's to be closer, it's like they're going to go from DeathTrack1946 to something you might see in a futuristic movie where gladiators die on the field of play for viewer/spectator pleasure.   Sad and scary.

Also in our endzones, I really wish there was a little more room, I mean, not like having a full fledged high jump area/8 lane running track kind of room, but more room.

I kinda like it tight like Nebraska's, but that's just personal preference.

I think if we do our "field exterior improvements" and with the limestone wall right, it will be the perfect distance from the field for when our next tiny little baby lockett drags his toes in the back of the end zone and goes flying out the back, but still doesn't go head first into a wall of any kind. A little room for safety, but still lookin classy as eff.

BMW, listen to me.  Obsessing about how your college sports team is perceived nationally is a really, really stupid thing to obsess about.  Who cares what other people think about them?  You like them, you think they're great, and better than KSU.  You have fun watching them play and following the team and going to games. You seem to have a lot going for you; good job, healthy, sexed probably over one hundred babes by now.  Stop letting perceived slights of KU from various anonymous internet posters stress you out.  Just decide to stop.

Also, except for the track and the exterior I think KU's football stadium is fine.  Oh and those temporary end zone seats.

Beems argument about our pressbox is valid, if it was done in 2010.

Guys comparing ku and kstate isn't going to help get ku off the big 12 mat in stadium upgrades. I'm not sure why pictures of our castle are being posted, it has nothing to do with the ku funding and track issues.

Now back to the issues at hand, oregonhawk are you guys giving the facade a face lift? Let's be honest the thing is an eye sore

KU's run down stadium is kind of endearing.  Like Wrigley.

Why didn't they keep the current stadium as the track place and build a football stadium where the track thing is being built (has been built?)?

well money obviously, and who would want to drive to the middle of the country to watch a d1 football game?
