I hate to single anyone out here, especially the deceased, but Paul Walker is the only "movie star" that has consistently struck me as being a terrible actor. Just totally unconvincing.

God rest his soul.

He convinced the world he could drive really fast and not die in the movies.

Way different cases. Denzel has the same ticks in all of his movies, from Malcolm X to Remember the Titans to Training Day. Everytime he hears something he doesn't like, he turns his head quickly to the side while scoffing. Seriously, he does it as every character he's ever played. And he always gets really still when he gets mad, and stares at you. Leo plays similar characters while still making them so different from one another. He doesn't have the same ticks, and they just seem like completely different people. I feel like if you picked up Coach Boone and made him into a personal security guard that lost his family, he'd be Creasy Bear.

Denzel takes it to the extreme with the ticks, mannerisms, etc., but it seems that Leo has played the same two or three types of characters in all of his movies.

It also bothers me that he's never attempted to do a comedy. I understand that it's a completely different type of acting, but great actors like Hanks, DeNiro, Cranston, or even McConaughey have managed to do it.

Have you not seen 2 Guns!?!

No, but I was referring to Leo. Sorry that I didn't make that clear.

is there  such a thing as an invisible actor?  someone that acted so well that they weren't even noticed, you didn't even know they were in the movie?  they're invisible?

The worst except in the Lake House. He was good in that one.

invisible cloaks?  do they exist?  stealth technology used in hollywood, and on actors.  E News hasn't reported that, now have they?

My roommate in college was an extra in the movie seabiscuit. I'm pretty sure someone could have done a better job of walking around drinking moonshine and smoking a cigarette.

P.S.- He always had the movie playing in the background at our house parties.  :dubious:

Ben Affleck is very bad at different roles and he is not type cast.

I think Affleck's been adequate in any movie I can recall him being in.

Ben Affleck is the bruceketball of acting.  When he is in a great movie, he is typically great.  When he's in a terrible movie like Boiler Room, he's horrific.

Hey, I've got Boiler Room on DVD!  I can't say I've truly watched it all the way through though.  I got a used copy from a long time ago when I worked at blockbuster and my only dvd player was a ps2.  It skipped in a few spots and I never tried rewatching.  Maybe it was the disc, maybe it was the ps2.

the role and being able to believe that person is that person makes an actor, imo. its all about perception.

How has Kevin Costner not been mentioned yet?  I mean seriously, he is the same dude in every movie he has ever been in.  Christ almighty anyone remember Robin Hood Prince of Thieves?  Holy jesus he couldn't even muster a british accent in that one.

I think I agree.  I take way more interest in the role than the actor.  There'll be tons of actors DQ'd from any given role based on physical things, but still a large pool of qualified actors who can pull off the look and hold up their end of the job.

Boiler Room is cool if you like watching Vin Diesel flounder his way through a movie without blowing crap up.  Every character in Boiler Room is less believable as a stockbroker than Shia LaBeouf in Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.  That's hard.

I thought Daniel Day Lewis way over-acted in that oil baron movie. But he won lots of awards so there you go.

DDL is great at being an evil bastard (he was also great in Gangs of New York imo, which was crap).  Keanu was very good in Street Kings, which was also surprisingly enjoyable.  Also Point Break, just a fabulous film.  Christoph Waltz is outstanding at playing an evil German guy.  The worst contemporary actor that still got a lot of work is Hayden Christensen.  What a piece of crap that guy.

Maybe, but it really works for me.  I rough ridin' loved him in that.  Really, really enjoy it everytime I see it (him pretending to be that guy).
