Tri-Delton
February 25, 2014Wildcats land in-state quarterbackRob CassidyRecruiting Analyst Talk about it in The Main BoardAlex Delton's commitment to Kansas State wasn't a shock-the-world type announcement by any stretch. That's not to say everything saw it coming, though. The Tuesday-night decision came without warning or any semblance of foreshadowing . "I basically knew I was going to eventually commit since early January, but I didn't know exactly when," Delton said. "I knew I was going to commit to K-State but I didn't decide I was going to do it today on my visit until I talked to my parents about it a few nights ago. We kind of decided then." Alex Delton committed to Kansas State on Tuesday evening. Quarterback recruiting moves quickly. There's little time for sitting idol. Waiting too long can force a player to miss out on opportunities. Roster spots fill up in a hurry and scholarship offers have a way of vanishing overnight. part of the reason Delton pulled the trigger on his commitment on Tuesday, but it's certainly not the only reason. There's more to the situation than urgency. A lot more. "It's simply just the people up there and the offense they run at K-State," Delton said. "The offense literally fits me perfectly. It doesn't get much better. I saw it on the board today. I'm the No. 1 guy they wanted. That's a good feeling to have. Some of the other schools had other guys No. 1 and were waiting to offer me until after they saw what the No. 1 guys were going to do. At K-State, it was never like that."K-State is responsible for Delton's first and only scholarship offer. The Wildcats made things official on that front last offseason, when the Hays (Kan.) standout turned heads with his speed at a team camp in Manhattan. In the time since, Delton has become an unofficial Wildcat of sorts. Surprising as Tuesday's news may have been, it was actually a formality of sorts. "Me and Jake Waters, the quarterback now, we've talked from time to time. Being up there today, I spent the day with him," Delton said. "I got his number. We'll be talking a lot more now. I can't do it on K-State's field or anything, but I want to be able to throw with him. I'll be up in Manhattan almost every weekend now."I guess it was an early commitment, but this was clearly the best decision for me."Delton was a standout at the Rivals250 Underclassmen Challenge last offseason and also garnered some attentions at this year's Under-Armour National Underclassmen combine. He is the No. 13-ranked quarterback in the 2015 class. Delton says he's never discussed a position change with the K-State staff or any other coach involved in his recruitment. Despite rumors to the contrary and some concern over his throwing motion, he intends to play quarterback on the college level.
when he says "I saw it on the board today" i think we all know what he means.
